Abstract
Seit Jahren schon werden der Branche der Information Broker bedeutende Entwicklungschancen vorhergesagt. Tatsache ist jedoch: Obwohl vom Informationszeitalter und der Informationsgesellschaft gesprochen wird und die Informationswirtschaft einen gewaltigen Boom erlebt, wächst die Branche nur langsam und bleibt hinter den hohen Erwartungen zurück. Es gibt in Deutschland etwa zwischen 150 und 250 freiberufliche Informationsvermittler. Dabei handelt es sich größtenteils um Einpersonenbetriebe mit mäßigem Umsatz. Viele bestreiten ihre Existenz auch nicht allein mit Information-Broking. Gerade in Deutschland sind viele Information-Broker auch noch als Consultant tätig. Die Diskrepanz zwischen dem Erfolg versprechenden Geschäftsmodell der Information Broker und der eher geringen Nachfrage nach deren Dienstleistungen weckte mein Interesse, eine Diplomarbeit' über die Information-Broker-Branche zu schreiben. Der Titel "Information-Broker - Situation und Perspektiven" - weist darauf hin, dass in dieser Diplomarbeit die Situation der Information-BrokerBranche analysiert und auf dieser Grundlage eine hypothetische Einschätzung bezüglich der zukünftigen Entwicklung des Information-Broker-Service vorgenommen wird. Es wird herausgearbeitet, wie sich auf Grund technischer Innovationen und moderner betriebswirtschaftlicher Konzepte der Service der Information Broker verändert und welche Strategien die Information Broker verfolgen, um die Ausbreitung ihrer Dienstleistung zu fördern. Beispielsweise wurde untersucht, ob sich Information Broker auf Fachbereiche oder Dienstleistungen spezialisieren oder untereinander kooperieren und sich zu einem umfassenden Allroundservice zusammenschließen. Es wurde ferner ermittelt, welchen Mehrwert der InformationBroker-Service für die potenziellen Kunden schaffen kann bzw. ob vollständiges oder partielles Outsourcing der Informationsbeschaffung mit den Konzepten des Informations- und Wissensmanagements vereinbar sind. Schließlich wurde auch versucht, eine Antwort auf die Frage zu finden, ob es sich beim Information Broking um einen Beruf der Gegenwart, der Zukunft oder doch schon wieder der Vergangenheit handelt. Um diese Fragen zu klären, wurden neben Literaturrecherchen, bei der die Jahrgänge 1997 bis 2001 der "nfd Information - Wissenschaft und Praxis" von zentraler Bedeutung waren, Internet- und Datenbankrecherchen auch eine Expertenbefragung in Form eines standardisierten HTML-Fragebogens (http://csab7638.tripod.com/infobroker.htm) durchgeführt, deren Ergebnisse den Kern dieser Branchenanalyse bilden. Insgesamt wurden 63 Datensätze ausgewertet. Dies ergibt bei einer Grundgesamtheit von 203 angeschriebenen Information Brokern eine Rücklaufquote von 31,03 Prozent.
