Abstract
Virtuelle Fachbibliotheken sind entstanden als Konzept der DFG zur Weiterentwicklung des Sondersammelgebiets-Plans. Damit soll sichergestellt werden, dass wissenschaftlich relevante Internetquellen in das System der überregionalen Literaturversorgung einbezogen werden. Langfristig sollen Virtuelle Fachbibliotheken als Einstiegspunkt für Fachrecherchen aller Art dienen. Beschrieben werden die Strukturelemente der inzwischen über 2o bestehenden Virtuellen Fachbibliotheken. Als konzeptionelle Weiterentwicklung wird der Übergang zum Typus des Wissenschaftlichen Fachportals vorgeschlagen. Um dessen Leistungspotenzial zur verdeutlichen werden portaltypische Funktionalitäten aufgezählt und erläutert.
