Abstract

Das Buch führt in die Theorie von Wort und Wortschatz der deutschen Sprache ein. Sein Gegenstand ist so komplexer Natur, die Literatur über ihn kaum mehr überschaubar, so daß nur die grundsätzlichen Probleme, die mit dem Lexikon verbunden sind, behandelt werden können: das Wesen des Wortes als sprachliche Grundeinheit, Probleme einer Wortdefinition, Begriff und Arten der Motivation, Wortbildung und Wortbedeutung, der Aufbau des Lexikons und die lexisch-semantischen Beziehungen im Text und im System, die soziale Gliederung des deutschen Wortschatzes, Ursachen und Triebkräfte seiner Veränderungen, des Bedeutungswandels, der Entstehung von Neologismen und Archaismen und der Übernahme fremden Wortgutes. Das Buch ist keine Forschungsmonographie, die einer einzigen der vielen gegenwärtigen sprachwissenschaftlichen Richtungen und Schulen verpflichtet ist, sondern will mit möglichst vielen Forschungsansätzen vertraut machen und in die Lexikologie als Studiendisziplin einführen.
