Abstract

Bücher über Gehirnverpflanzung erwecken natürlich immer großes Interesse, ist das Gehirn doch noch eine der letzten Bastionen des menschlichen Körpers, die noch tabuisiert ist, schließlich lassen sich Gehirne ja auch nicht so einfach verpflanzen wie etwa Herz, Leber oder Niere. Trotzdem wird auch hier geforscht und es werden auch schon Dinge gemacht, wie etwa die Einbringung von fötalen Hirngewebe in das Gehirn von Alzheimer-Patienten mittels "Gehirninjektion", womit man auch schon Erfolge erzielt hat. Der Autor beschreibt dieses Verfahren, geht dann in einem kleinen historischen Abriss auf die Entwicklung dieser operativen Techniken ein, deren Geschichte bis in die frühen fünfziger Jahre zurückreicht. Es werden die Hirntodkriterien beschrieben, die ja auch immer wieder in Frage gestellt werden und auch wirklich nicht der Weisheit letzter Schluß sind, sondern eben nur ein Hilfsmittel für Organtransplantation. Was geschieht aber, wenn das Gehirn oder Teile des Gehirns selbst zur Option für Transplantationen stehen? Auf diese und auf weitere ethische Fragen gibt das Buch hinlänglich Auskunft. Sehr kritisch stellt der Autor alle Für und Wider dieser Problematik dar, etwa die Frage, ob es denn wirklich ein Fortschritt oder eine Art Unsterblichkeit ist, wenn sich der Mensch in zukünftigen Zeiten vielleicht mit Hilfe dieser oben beschriebenen "Injektionen von embryonalem Hirngewebe" sein Gehirn stetig erneuert um auf diese Weise sozusagen seinem eigenen Tod hintanzuhalten. Interessant auch die Fragestellungen über die Ich-Funktion des Gehirns und die vor allem im New Age immer wieder propagierten Versuche, diese mit Hilfe von verschiedenen Meditationstechniken zugunsten eines All-Bewußtseins zu überwinden. Linke stellt die Frage: Was will man damit wirklich? Will man sein Ichbewußtseins wirklich zugunsten eines Allbewußtseins zurücksetzen, das auch immer ein Bewußtsein über ein "Du" wäre, und somit ein soziales Bewußtsein sein müßte, schon um unser menschliches Zusammenleben zu sichern, oder wollen wir mittels eines gesteigerten Ichbewußtseins, einer "Egologie", nur in einem verstärktem Maß unsere Umwelt beherrschen. "Wer ist dann überhaupt noch erlöst", fragt der Autor. Und: die Ursache des Schmerzes sollte auch im eigenen Körper gesehen werden und nicht bloß außerhalb des Körpers, im "bösen" anderen. So gesehen ist die Frage nach einer vom Menschen gemachten Unsterblichkeit noch lange nicht ausverhandelt. Wie und was wir aber dem biologischen Tod entgegensetzen, was für ein Konzept der Unsterblichkeit uns heute als Ersatz für den Verlust der religiösen Dimension hilft, unser Leben zu bewältigen, wird sich nicht allein vor dem Hintergrund medizinischer Technologie entscheiden lassen, zu sehr sind diese Fragen mit dem konkreten Lebensverlauf und unserem konkreten Schicksal verwoben. Diese Fragen, ideologie- und vorurteilsfrei angesprochen, sind es, die den Leser / die Leserin zu neuen Gedankengängen animieren, und das äußerst lesenswerte Buch auszeichnen.
