Abstract
Im Rahmen einer auf die moderne Informations- und Mediengesellschaft übertragenen Diskussion um Mythen und Kulte stellt der Autor Aussagen wie die folgende zu Diskussion: "Der Glaube an eine grundsätzliche Verbesserung des Privat- oder Arbeitslebens durch vernetzte Kommunikation und schnellen Zugang zu Botschaften und Informationen lässt sich durchaus als mit kultischen Handlungen verbunden interpretieren." (S.67) Daraus leitet sich ab, dass eine mythologisierende Betrachtung (etwa des Internet) die Funktion hat, rational nicht Verstandenes (vielleicht für den Einzelnen auch nicht Verstehbares) als für die eigene Erfahrungswelt zugänglich zu machen und beherrschbar erscheinen zu lassen. Nicht allein, aber besonders durch Internet und Massenmedien wird der Mythos wieder zum Gegenwartsphänomen, indem er uns, die wir doch sonst eher die Prinzipien einer als rational verstandenen Aufklärung für unser Denken und Handeln in Anspruch nehmen, die Furcht vor dem Unbekannten nimmt und für Undurchschaubares die prinzipielle Sinnhaftigkeit garantiert? Eine sicher diskutierbare, aber doch reizvolle Sicht auf viele Erscheinungsformen in diversen Darstellungen, Mailinglisten und Diskussionsforen.
