Abstract

"Die mit dem Internet und WWW verbundenen Möglichkeiten zur Informationsvermittlung wurden in jüngster Zeit von Bibliotheken erkannt. Dies führte dazu, daß viele Bibliotheken bereits zumindest einen OPAC über das Internet anbieten. Zukünftige Aktivitäten werden aber dahin gehen, daß auch digitale Dokumente oder Internetressourcen, d.h. Informationen über Dokumente im Intennet, die nicht zum Bibliotheksbestand gehören, von Bibliotheken angeboten werden. Da diese Entwicklungen die definierenden Eigenschaften einer Bibliothek verändern, hat sich zur Abgrenzung von 'klassischen' Bibliotheken der Begriff 'virtuelle' oder 'digitale' Bibliothek etabliert. Neben der Informationsvermittlung dienen klassische Bibliotheken jedoch auch als Kommunikationszentren, in denen man Studien- und Fachkollegen zum gemeinsamen Arbeiten trifft. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird es für die Akzeptanz vitueller Bibliotheken von großer Bedeutung sein, daß auch sie geeignete Kommunikationsdienste für ihre unterschiedlichen Nutzertypen anbieten
