Abstract

Many classification of standards exist. These are often inconsistent, which may lead to confusion in standardization practice. This article includes an inventory of current classifications and a discussion of their aplicability. Based on the new insights, gained from this examination, other possible classifications of standards are suggested. These classifications may be related to the entities the standards refer to or to the users of the standards
