Abstract
Im folgenden wird - ausgehend von der natürlichen Sprache - eine Präzisierung der Begriffe "Information", "Wissen" und "Daten" unternommen. Diese drei Benennungen werden immer wieder verwechselt, so dass manchmal der fälschliche Eindruck der Synonymie (Begriffsidentität) entsteht. Ein Anliegen des Beitrags ist, zu zeigen, dass dem nicht so ist. Es ergibt sich ein prozessuales Modell, das Information, Wissen und Daten als Komponenten eines Kreislaufes versteht, der sowohl als Schema für Informationsgewinnung und Wissensakquirierung als auch zur Veranschaulichung von Problemlösungsprozessen herangezogen werden kann. Im letzten Abschnitt sollen die bis dahin erarbeiteten Ergebnisse auf den Bereich der menschlichen und nicht-menschlichen Kommunikation im Rahmen einer allgemeinen Semiotik übertragen werden. Die Anwendbarkeit des gesamten Modells reicht also von Linguistik und Semiotik über Erkenntnistheorie bis hin zu informationstechnologischen Kontexten
