Abstract
Die Datenbank historischer Bucheinbände ist ein Verbundprojekt, an dem die Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin-Preußischer Kulturbesitz, die Württembergische Landesbibliothek Stuttgart, die Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel und seit 1. Februar 2004 auch die Bayerische Staatsbibliothek München beteiligt sind. Ziel der Datenbank ist die Bereitstellung von Informationen zu Bucheinbänden, die mit Einzelstempeln, Rollen und Platten verziert sind. Neben der Beschreibung werden zu jedem Einband Images angeboten, die eine exakte Bestimmung erst ermöglichen. Vielfältige Suchstrategien gestatten es dem Nutzer, genaue Angaben u.a. zu Werkzeugen, Werkstätten und Provenienzen zu erhalten. Durch die Einbeziehung weiterer Bibliotheken und Archive soll die Datenbank in den nächsten Jahren zum zentralen Nachweisinstrument für den Einband der Spätgotik und der Renaissance ausgebaut werden.
