Abstract
Der erste Autor dieses Beitrags (der seinem hier geehrten akademischen Lehrer seit langem in tiefer Freundschaft verbunden ist), hat Harald Zimmermann einmal sagen hören, Übersetzungswissenschaft sei für ihn eigentlich 'nur' eine Spielart der Informationswissenschaft. Dieser These soll hier nachgegangen werden, indem Einzelelemente der beiden Wissenschaften miteinander verglichen und auf Parallelen und Abweichungen untersucht werden sollen. Translationswissenschaft (dies als 'modernere' Bezeichnung von Übersetzungs- und Dolmetschwissenschaft) im weitesten Sinne umfasst jede Art von Umkodierung sprachlich kodierter Information, also Übersetzen, Dolmetschen, Paraphrasieren - im Endeffekt auch Zusammenfassung, Schlagwortvergabe, grafische Darstellung von Begriffssystemen, Terminologiearbeit, Vorbereitung von Übersetzungen und Dolmetschaufträgen usw. Sie ist sozusagen ein Oberbegriff zu Übersetzungs- und Dolmetschwissenschaft. Kann man nun nicht (in Umkehrung des Zimmermann-Satzes) auch sagen, Informationswissenschaft sei eigentlich 'nur' eine Spielart der Translationswissenschaft?
