Abstract

LINUX ist ein auf PCs lauffähiges Betriebssystem, welches UNIX sehr ähnlich ist. LINUX-Distributionen, in welchen der LINUX-Betriebssystemkern, zahlreiche Applikationen, UNIX-Basisprogramme sowie komplette Anwendungspakete enthalten sind, stehen in verschiedenen sehr preisgünstigen Varianten zur Verfügung. Der Autor gibt praxisorientiert eine Einführung in LINUX, die schwerpunktmäßig die Themenkreise Programme und Prozesse, Dateien und Dateisysteme, dateiorientierte Kommandos, Editoren, Shell-Programmierung, vernetzte Systeme und die X-Windows-Oberfläche behandelt. Die kompakte Darstellung geht auch auf konzeptionelle Hintergründe ein und stützt sich auf instruktive Beispiele. Auf eine Berücksichtigung sämtlicher in LINUX-Distributionen enthaltenen Werkzeuge muß aus Platzgründen verzichtet werden. Nachweis weiterführender Literatur; umfangreiches Stichwortregister. Bei aufmerksamer Lektüre ist das Buch auch Einsteigern zugänglich. Zum Selbststudium gut geeignet.
