Abstract

Wissensökologie ist im Zusammenhang von Informationsethik zu sehen. Deren zentrale Zielsetzung, nämlich die Bedingungen der Möglichkeit eines inklusiven und gerechten Umgangs mit Wissen und Information auszuloten, kann nur dann erreicht werden, wenn der Gedanke der Nachhaltigkeit zur Anwendung kommt. Der nachhaltige Umgang mit Wissen und Information soll Wissensökologie genannt werden. Wissensökologie bezieht die für Ökologie allgemein grundlegende Idee der Nachhaltigkeit nicht allein auf die natürlichen Ressourcen, sondern schließt den nachhaltigen Umgang mit den intellektuellen Ressourcen mit ein. Dazu muss das klassische DreiSäulen-Modell der (sozialen, ökonomischen und ökologischen) Nachhaltigkeit um die kulturelle und informationelle Dimension erweitert werden. Nachhaltigkeit ist seit dem Einzug des Konzepts in die allgemeine ökologische Diskussion so etwas wie eine moralische Norm im Sinne von inter- und intragenerationeller Gerechtigkeit und Verantwortlichkeit geworden. Viele Entscheidungen, die auch im Bereich von Wissen und Information getroffen werden, haben globale Konsequenzen. Sie lassen heute und zukünftigen Generationen die Optionen offen, sich auf der Grundlage überlieferten Wissens fortzuentwickeln, oder aber sie verstellen ihnen diese Optionen, indem bislang erarbeitetes Wissen verknappt oder der Zugang zu ihm nicht mehr (oder nur einer jeweils spezifizierten Elite) möglich gemacht wird. Dies zu analysieren und dazu beizutragen, dass Letzteres nicht geschieht, ist Aufgabe der Wissensökologie.
