Abstract
Ob Impfdebatte, Corona- oder Klimakrise - viele politische Streitfragen werden heute als Wissenskonflikte verhandelt. Man beschäftigt sich immer weniger mit normativen Aspekten und individuellen Handlungsoptionen, sondern streitet um die überlegenen Erkenntnisse: Wer am genauesten mit den Ergebnissen der Wissenschaft übereinstimmt, so die implizite Annahme, der verfügt damit auch über Lösungen, die dann alternativlos sind. Alexander Bogner untersucht diese Fixierung auf Wissensfragen und ihre Folgen. Dabei wird deutlich, dass diese »Epistemisierung des Politischen« gefährlicher für unsere Demokratie ist als das leicht durchschaubare Spiel mit Fake News und Twitter-Lügen. Die Hochkonjunktur von Verschwörungsideologien und alternativen Fakten, über die alles gesagt zu sein scheint, erscheint unter diesen Vorzeichen in völlig neuem Licht.
Verändert sich die Demokratie in der Wissensgesellschaft in eine "Epistemokratie", fragt der österreichische Soziologe in seinem belesenen, anspruchsvollen Essay, also in eine Politikform, in der Interessenskonflikte und Wertekontroversen zu Wissensdingen umgewandelt und (vermeintlich) als alternativlos entschieden werden, wie sich überall beobachten lässt. Solche Wissen(schaft)sabhängigkeit beschwöre zwangsläufig Populismus, Faktenleugnung und Verschwörungstheorien bei zentralen Problemen wie dem Klimawandel, der Energiewende, der Pandemiebekämpfung u.a. herauf und motiviere Protest und Widerstand bei Minderheiten. Eine Lösung für dieses strukturelle Dilemma oder auch nur einen schmalen Ausweg bietet der Autor allerdings nicht - allenfalls jene: dass sich Politik und Wissenschaft nicht weiter miteinander vermischen dürfen und jeder Sektor seine Aufgaben separat und transparent wahrnehmen soll: die Politik die Regulation von Interessen und die Suche von Kompromissen, die Wissenschaft rationale Erkenntnis und logischen Fortschritt.
