- Abstract
- Seit Juni 2005 beteiligen sich auch wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken an der Deutschen Internetbibliothek. Der 2002 an den Start gegangene Kooperationsverbund aus 70 Öffentlichen Bibliotheken, der den Internetnutzern sowohl einen annotierten Linkkatalog als auch eine kostenlose E-Mail-Auskunft zur Verfügung stellt, bietet seit kurzem auch interessierten wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken die Möglichkeit, ihre zum Teil sehr fachspezifischen Informationsressourcen einer breiteren Öffentlichkeit zu vermitteln. Neben Universalbibliotheken, wie z.B. die UB Oldenburg oder die SLUB Dresden haben bereits einige hochspezialisierte Informationseinrichtungen, wie die ZBMED in Köln und die TIB Hannover ihre Mitarbeit an der Deutschen Internetbibliothek im Rahmen der E-Mail-Auskunft signalisiert. Zu den inzwischen 20 neuen Teilnehmerbibliotheken gehören u. a. auch das Informationszentrum des Goethe-Instituts in München und die Schweizerische Landesbibliothek in Bern.

- "Die Ambitionen sind groß: Wenn heute im niederländischen Den Haag die Internetseiten von Europeana freigeschaltet werden, wird der virtuelle Raum um ein Portal bereichert, das Zugang zu nicht weniger als zwei Millionen Exponaten verschafft. Die enorme Sammlung bündelt in digitaler Form 2000 Jahre europäischer Kulturgeschichte - unter Verwendung von Texten und Bildern, aber auch von Video- und Audio-Dateien. Wenn der annoncierte Umfang der Realität entspricht, würde das neue zentrale Gedächtnis der europäischen Kulturgeschichte schon zum Start über etwa zweieinhalb Mal so viele Einträge verfügen wie die deutschsprachige Ausgabe der Open-Source-Enzyklopädie Wikipedia. Ob die hohen Ansprüche des von der Europäischen Union initiierten Projektes auch gehalten werden, konnte bis zur Freischaltung nur sporadisch verifiziert werden. Auf der Homepage zeigte ein kurzes Demonstrationsvideo (zu den streng genommen uramerikanischen Klängen von Lee Hazlewoods "These boots are made for walking") lediglich einen hektisch montierten Querschnitt von all dem, was die Wissbegierigen erwartet: Ein virtu- elles Zwischending aus Archiv, Ausstellungshaus, Museum und Bibliothek. Angesiedelt ist Europeana in der Königlichen Niederländischen Bibliothek in Den Haag. Hier wurden in rund zwei Jahren Vorbereitungszeit alle virtuellen Kulturgüter gesammelt und inventarisiert, die aus den Museen, Nationalbibliotheken, Forschungseinrichtungen und anderweitigen Sammlungen der 27 EU-Mitgliedsstaaten' , eingereicht wurden. Leiterin des Projekts, in das bis zum Jahre 2010 rund 120 Millionen Euro investiert werden, ist die Luxemburgerin Viviane Reding, die das Amt der EU-Kommissarin fir Informationsgesellschaft und Medien bekleidet. Reding lokalisiert die primäre Zielsetzung von Europeana darin, einen kostenlosen und möglichst kompletten Zugang zur kulturellen Vielfalt des Kontinents zu gewähren.-

- Abstract
- Nach mehr als 4 Jahren Erfahrung in der kooperativen Erschließung von Internetquellen öffnet sich der Verbund Academic LinkShare für neue Partner aus den Geistes-, Regional- und Sozialwissenschaften. Academic LinkShare ist ein Netzwerk wissenschaftlicher Bibliotheken. Gemeinsam bauen sie einen interdisziplinären Datenpool fachlich relevanter Internetquellen auf, aus dem sich alle Partner gleichberechtigt bedienen können. Nach mehr als vier Jahren gemeinsamer Entwicklungs- und Erschließungsarbeit lässt sich der Erfolg des Modells heute quantifizieren. Seit der Aufnahme des ersten Datensatzes Mitte 2001 sind weit mehr als 20.000 Quellen aus dem politik-, rechts-, wirtschafts- und sozialwissenschaftlichen Umfeld dazugekommen. Sie werden präsentiert in den Fachinformationsführern (qualifizierten Linksammlungen) von ViFaPol (Politikwissenschaft - http://www.vifapol.de), EconBiz (Wirtschaftswissenschaften - http://www.econbiz.de) und ViFa Recht (Rechtswissenschaft - http://www.vifa-recht.de). Jüngstes Mitglied des Verbundes sind die Europäischen Dokumentationszentren mit ihrem Rechercheportal ArchiDok (http://archidok.uni-mannheim.de). Die Einsparpotentiale liegen vor allem im hohen Überschneidungsgrad der Quellen, der - ohne Volltexte - bei ca. 30% liegt. Die Schaffung einer gemeinsamen technischen Infrastruktur allein begründet noch nicht den Erfolg des Modells. Viel schwieriger als die Entwicklung eines Erfassungssystems ist der Aufbau eines funktionierenden Netzwerks wissenschaftlicher Einrichtungen und Bibliotheken, das sich nachhaltig für den Aufbau des Datenpools verantwortlich zeichnet. Vor dem Hintergrund überaus knapper Zeitressourcen hat Academic LinkShare technische und organisatorische Lösungen entwickelt, die den Voraussetzungen der Kooperationspartner gerecht werden. Dieses Win-Win-Prinzip zahlt sich aus. Neben den fünf Verbundpartnern von Academic LinkShare beteiligen sich heute mehr als 40 wissenschaftliche Einrichtungen an der Erschließung der Quellen. Das Interesse an dem Modell des Metadata Sharing ist beachtlich - der Kreis der Mitwirkenden wächst kontinuierlich an. Academic LinkShare bietet Interessenten aus dem sozial-, geistes- und regionalwissenschaftlichen Umfeld die Möglichkeit, dem Verbund beizutreten, und unterstützt sie dabei auf der Basis der vorhandenen technischen Lösungen beim Aufbau und Betrieb einer eigenen Virtuellen Fachbibliothek.
