- Abstract
- Im Mittelpunkt dieses Kapitels steht die praktische Informationssuche (Information Retrival, Online Retrieval, Online Recherche) in den qualitativ hochwertigen und gut strukturierten Online-Datenbanken (Informations-Datenbanken). Die hohe Qualität ihrer Informationsinhalte wird durch eine entsprechende fachliche Auswahl und Bearbeitung der Informationen schergestellt. Die detaillierte Strukturierung der gespeicherten Datenbank-Inhalte in Felder (z.B. Namen, Umsatz, Beschäftigte, Jahr) ist eine wichtige Voraussetzung für die Beantwortung komlexer und sehr spezifischer Fragestellungen professioneller Nutzer. Diese-kostenpflichtigen-traditionellen Online-Datenbanken behaupten sich weiterhin wegen der genannten Vorteile gegenüber den in der Regel kostenlosen Informationsangeboten des "chaotischen" Internets (siehe Kap. C 3 Metainformationsdienste im Internet). Da alle Online-Datenbanken über eine entsprechende Web-Oberfläche von den Nutzern erreicht werden können, wurden damit die Recherchedurchführung erleichtert und neue Nutzergruppen erschlossen. Die Benutzung dieser Online-Datenbanken wird nachfolgend an Hand praktischer Recherchebeispiele erläutert, über die theoretischen Grundlagen des Information Retrievals informieren die Kap. B 7 - B 9. Die Internet-Suchmaschinen werden in Kap. C 3 behandelt.

- Mehrere Millionen Euro Verlust für 2007 Auch eine Sonderedition von Armin Müller-Stahl kam bei Menschen und Medien zwar gut an, konnte den Verkauf aber nicht ankurbeln. Allein aus Prestigegründen könne der Verlag keine neue Auflage herausbringen: ,Wir sind sehr skeptisch, ob es eine 22. Auflage geben wird." Der Verlag hat einen Verlust von mehreren Millionen Euro für 2007 angekündigt. Das Geschäft mit Duden, Schulbuch und Kalendern laufe dagegen gut, sagte Holoch. Auch Themenlexika wie "Brockhaus Wein" sei en sehr erfolgreich. Auch Angebote wie der Brockhaus auf CD-Rom werden bleiben. In den vergangenen sechs, sieben Jahren habe der klassische Lexikon-Markt bereits gebröckelt. "Jetzt scheint das Internet den absoluten Durchbruch geschafft zu haben." Dass der Verlag die Kehrtwende zu spät vollzogen habe, bestreitet Holoch. Bei der Vorbereitung des Online-Angebots sei der Verlag aber "von der Marktentwicklung überholt" worden. Und: Beim Print Thema wollten wir wirklich alles probiert haben." Rund 60 Mitarbeiter in der Leipziger Online-Redaktion kümmern sich nun um das neue Produkt. "Der Stamm der Mannschaft, die an der letzten, seit Ende 2006 vollständigen Printausgabe arbeitete, wurde mit Online-Profis ergänzt", erklärt Holoch. Chefredakteurin wird Sigrun Albert, die zuvor die Redaktionen von "Brigitte.de" und "YoungMiss.de" leitete. Meyers Lexikon - es gehört ebenfalls zum Verlag Bibliographisches Institut & F.A. Brockhaus AG - ist bereits seit einem guten Jahr online: "Das war unser Testfeld, es hat sich gut entwickelt." Zu Meyers Lexikon können User selbst mit Artikeln beitragen, die von der Redaktion geprüft und ergänzt werden. Das soll beim Brockhaus anders sein, sagt Holoch, verspricht aber: Wir werden auch auf Web 2.0-Bedürfnisse eingehen."

- Abstract
- Am 26. Januar startet "Zeitgeschichte-online" - ein neues Internetportal mit einem umfangreichen Informationsangebot für die zeithistorische Forschung. Das Portal erschließt zeithistorische Internet-Ressourcen, enthält Tagungsberichte, Rezensionen sowie redaktionell betreute Themenangebote und ermöglicht eine komfortable Katalog- und Datenbanksuche. Teil des Portals ist außerdem die neue Fachzeitschrift "Zeithistorische Forschungen/Studies in Contemporary History". Sie erscheint in zwei Ausgaben: einer Online-Version und einer parallelen Druckausgabe (beim Verlag Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, http://www.v-r.de). Das Fachportal "Zeitgeschichte-online" ist ein gemeinsames Projekt des Zentrums für Zeithistorische Forschung Potsdam und der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz. Es ist zugleich als ein Modul des geschichtswissenschaftlichen Portals "Clio-online" konzipiert (http://www.clioonline.de) und kooperiert eng mit dem Informationsdienst "H-Soz-u-Kult" (http://hsozkult.geschichte.hu-berlin.de). Das Projekt wird von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft gefördert. Ausführlichere Projektinformationen gibt es unter http://www.zeitgeschichte-online.de.

- Abstract
- Der vollständige Projektname von Renardus lautet "Academic Subject Gateway Service Europe". Renardus wird von der Europäischen Union im 5. Rahmenprogramm mit dem Schwerpunktthema "Information Society Technologies" im zweiten Thematischen Programm "Benutzerfreundliche Informationsgesellschaft" ('Promoting a User-friendly Information Society') gefördert. Die Projektlaufzeit ist von Januar 2000 bis Juni 2002. Insgesamt zwölf Partner (Principal und Assistant Contractors) aus Finnland, Dänemark, Schweden, Großbritannien, den Niederlanden, Frankreich und Deutschland beteiligen sich an diesem Projekt. Die Europäische Union unterstützt das Projekt mit 1,7 Mio. EURO, die Gesamtkosten belaufen sich inklusive der Eigenbeteiligungen der Partner auf 2,3 Mio. EURO. Das Ziel des Projektes Renardus ist es, über eine Schnittstelle Zugriff auf verteilte Sammlungen von "High Quality" Internet Ressourcen in Europa zu ermöglichen. Diese Schnittstelle wird über den Renardus Broker realisiert, der das "Cross-Searchen" und "Cross-Browsen" über verteilte "Quality-Controlled Subject Gateways" ermöglicht. Ein weiteres Ziel von Renardus ist es, Möglichkeiten von "metadata sharing" zu evaluieren und in kleinen Experimenten zwischen z. B. Subject Gateways und Nationalbibliothek zu testen bzw. zu realisieren
