Zugegeben, die Frage war ein wenig exotisch. Der Anrufer sucht Nachrichten über einen Nomadenstamm der westlichen Sahara. Doch schon kommt die Antwort im Cyberslang. "Schauen Sie doch mal unter http://www.der-ueberblick.de/archiv/199904/199904.067/content.html nach." Tatsächlich findet sich gleich unter der ersten Empfehlung ein aktuelles Interview mit dem deutschen Vertreter der Polisario zum Freiheitskampf der Sahraoui in Marokko. Und die freundliche Stimme am anderen Ende der Leitung kann dem Anrufer noch drei weitere Internet-Seiten vermitteln. Jacqueline Dietz ist von Beruf "Netguide". Früher half das Fräulein vom Amt mit Telefonnummern weiter. Heute nimmt der Internet-Berater dem Nutzer einen Teil seiner Recherche ab. - Abstract
- Anlässlich eines Seminars über Web Usability erhielten Studierende des Fachbereichs Bibliothek und Information (HAW Hamburg) Gelegenheit, sich als Usability-Experten zu erproben. Als Ergebnis lagen im Sommer 2001 Usability-Berichte für 22 Bibliothekswebsites vor. Einige der Auftraggeber waren in der Lage, die Empfehlungen der Studierenden anlässlich eines Redesigns ihrer Website unmittelbar umzusetzen. Im Folgenden werden häufige und gravierende Befunde aus den Usability-Berichten zusammengefasst' und jeweils anschließend Empfehlungen angeboten.

- Abstract
- Das in dieser Zeitschrift bereits vorgestellte Multisuchsystem E-Connect hat mittlerweile einige äußere und innere Anderungen und Erweiterungen erfahren. Abbildung 1 zeigt das Suchformular für die Suche in mehreren allgemeinen Aufsatz- und Verlagsdatenbanken. Ein entsprechendes Suchformular für die Suche nach Zeitschriftenaufsätzen mehrerer bzw. einzelner Fachgebiete ist ähnlich aufgebaut und enthält u. a. den vereinfachten Zugang zu dem fachlich den gesamten STIVI-Bereich umfassenden EnergyPortal Search und zu weiteren Datenbanken von elektronischen Aufsätzen, Reports und Preprints. Von der Startseite aus kann man jetzt auch über eine Suchmaschine sowohl die im Multisuchsystem als auch die in den Bibliographischen Datenbanken im Internet enthaltenen etwa 160 Datenbanken suchen und anwählen. Damit ist eine Art von digitaler Bibliothek entstanden, die vor allem elektronisch verfügbare Dokumente erschließt

- Abstract
- Am 26. Januar startet "Zeitgeschichte-online" - ein neues Internetportal mit einem umfangreichen Informationsangebot für die zeithistorische Forschung. Das Portal erschließt zeithistorische Internet-Ressourcen, enthält Tagungsberichte, Rezensionen sowie redaktionell betreute Themenangebote und ermöglicht eine komfortable Katalog- und Datenbanksuche. Teil des Portals ist außerdem die neue Fachzeitschrift "Zeithistorische Forschungen/Studies in Contemporary History". Sie erscheint in zwei Ausgaben: einer Online-Version und einer parallelen Druckausgabe (beim Verlag Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, http://www.v-r.de). Das Fachportal "Zeitgeschichte-online" ist ein gemeinsames Projekt des Zentrums für Zeithistorische Forschung Potsdam und der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz. Es ist zugleich als ein Modul des geschichtswissenschaftlichen Portals "Clio-online" konzipiert (http://www.clioonline.de) und kooperiert eng mit dem Informationsdienst "H-Soz-u-Kult" (http://hsozkult.geschichte.hu-berlin.de). Das Projekt wird von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft gefördert. Ausführlichere Projektinformationen gibt es unter http://www.zeitgeschichte-online.de.
