    Abstract
Survey on hypertext-/hypermedia-systems and applications. Important parts of hypertext systems are shown. Selected systems and developments are presented with their essential characteristics in a frame of a rough classification. Some problems associated with the implementation of hypertext-systems are addressed. Finally it is attempted to sketch the possible future of hypertext/hypermedia. New application possibilities are seen especially in the integration of hypertext and knowledge-based systems, or in utilizing hypertext-systems for knowledge acquisition which are perhaps looked at as expert systems

    Abstract
Within the SOKRATES project Bavarian state, university and regional libraries are being equipped with locally automated systems. Regensburg university library has piloted the SISIS-OPAC-ONL version 1.0, adapted from the SINIX-based software SISIS-SE, with a machine readable stock of 1,66 million titles. OPAC-ONL offers 3 retrieval functions of different grades. Tests have been approved by Bavarian state libraries provided that certain faults are rectified statewide use of the OPAC should follow

    Abstract
After German unification, many former East German government agencies and institutions were closed. Archivists had to secure not only their paper records, but also a considerable number of digital data holdings. East German data processing systems proved not entirely different from those in the Western world, so there were no serious technical problems in terms of hardware and software. However, the conditions of acquisition were very different. In many instances, documentation of these electronic records proved to be incomplete or even totally missing. In such cases, different approaches were taken to identify and verify data file structures and to reconstruct missing documentation

    Abstract
Up to the present day, difficulties have confronted all attempts at establishing a theory of concepts that would comprise the various kinds of concept-formation in the disciplines of the spectrum of sciences. Not a few philosophical dictionaries, under the entry 'concept', still offer doctrinies which were current far back in the history of philosophy and have little in coomon with concept-formations in the sciences today. The paper aims at an improvement in this situation. After a sketch of the 'classical' notion of concept, already developed in antiquity (essentially a logic of 'classification', although 'class-formation' in tis present understanding had not yet been conceived), the canonical modern doctrine of concepts is outlined. With an eye to application in the exact sciences, it is shown how in the nineteenth century the view of concept as an additive complex of characteristics yields to a functional approach systematized, in the last quarter of the century, by classical quantificational logic. Almost simultaneously, Mach, Frege, Peano, Weyl and others set out to shape the modern theory of abstraction. It is these two theories that today permit philosophers of science not only to deal with functional processes of concept-formation but also to represent in a formally coorect manner metalinguistic propositions about concepts and their properties. Thus it seems that the fundamental tasks of a modern theory of concept have finally been taken care of

    Abstract
It is discussed what is underlying the assumption of modality-specific processing systems and representations. Starting from the information processing approach relevant aspects of mental representations and their physiological realizations are discussed. Then 3 different forms of modality-specific systems are distinguished: as stimulus specific processing, as specific informational formats, and as modular part systems. Parallel to that 3 kinds of analogue systems are differentiated: as holding an analogue-relation, as having a specific informational format and as a set of specific processing constraints. These different aspects of the assumption of modality-specific systems are demonstrated in the example of visual and spatial information processing. It is concluded that postulating information-specific systems is not a superfluous assumption, but it is necessary, and even more likely it is inevitable consequence of an optimization of stimulus processing

    Abstract
Austrian secondary school libraries have maximum stocks of 12.000 items but need effective administration. The user friendly software LITTERA was chosen for use there; experiences in a gymnasium library stocking 7.800 books, 2.100 periodicals and other media are described. The input format for book entry is clear and comprehensive: subordinate menus simplify input work. LITTERA can be used in short entry form for retrospective conversion. The program can be developed further
