    Abstract
The availability of powerful indexing and database products with easy Web connections means that libraries able to gather and edit their own data are emancipated from the large vendors. The Oregon State Library staff used the Data Magician translation utility as part of a complex, but speedy, database converison project. The Oregon Index database of approximately 300.000 records was converted from a BRS database host over to the Inmagic WebPublisher system. Describes the planning and action stepts used in producing the Web accessible index database of considerable size. Participants have high ratings to effectiveness of both the translation utility and the database engine

    Abstract
Reviews the main features of ideaList, a text data base management software package produced by Blackwell Scientific Software, UK, designed for the creation and searching of data bases. Information can be entered into the ideaList data base from the keyword or imported from external data ases (MEDLINE on DIALOG). Describes some of the features offered: searching; cross references; sorting; printing and exporting; flexibiblity of application. Briefly notes the application of ideaList as a bibliography formatting program. Concludes that people used to searching on-line and CD-ROM data bases will find ideaList's searching both comfortable and fast

    Abstract
Reviews the EndNote Plus software package, one of a growing range of bibliography makers, designed to facilitate the creation of bibliographies by means of word processing software. EndNote Plus can be used to create large, fully formatted bibliographies that can be incorporated automatically into research papers. Alternatively, EndNote Plus bibliographies can be created as independent documents with facilities that provide users with basic search and retrieval tools. EndNote Plus also supports the importing of downloaded data from online databases and other external sources

Reviews Inmagic Plus, the text retrieval software from Soutron Ltd. It includes a menu driven search interface and modern database management facilities such as a comprehensive data validation facility and the ability to defer the indexing of new records to an overnight batch process. While not using a relational database architecture, Inmagic Plus is highly flexible in the way that it handles different record structures together. Provides the example of Penspen Ltd's use of Inmagic for managing technical standards documents

    Abstract
Most information storage and retrieval software packages for microcomputers including MicroISIS provide for online vocabulary control in formulating search expressions for information retrievla, but very few provide any help at the data entry stage. Describes VOCON.PAS, a Pascal interface program for use with MicroISIS software for online selection of term(s) and(or code(s) from a vocabulary control tool to specified field(s) of one or more records of a MicroISIS database
