    Abstract
Describes the functions of FirstSearch, the end user interface designed by On-line Computer Library Center (OCLC) to facilitate access to the OCLC union catalogue and a range of data bases loaded from external publishers (H.W. Wilson, UMI/Data Courier). FirstSearch is provided via OCLC member libraries with a pricing structure based on payment per search

    Abstract
In Febr. 1989, Vanderbilt University Library introduced a locally mounte MEDLINE file into its NOTIS-based online catalog. Planning and programming efforts are under way to add several H.W. Wilson databases by summer 1989. Considerations related to decisions about databases and search engine selection are described; key factors in the implementation process are presented

    Abstract
Contribution to a thematic issue devoted to the H.W. Wilson symposium on 'the future of public libraries' held 26-29 Sept 90, Omaha. Looks at common mistakes made in the area of library technology including its budgeting and training implications. Examines advances in technology that will be important to libraries in the coming decade such as the NREN, electronic bulletin board systems, desk-top publishing possibilities for libraries. Makes 6 key recommendations for making the most of technology in libraries

    Abstract
Response to Tom Gartshore's review of applicability for school libraries of the H.W. Wilson Company's indexes on CD-ROM and their information retrieval system WILSONDISC. Criticises that the Wilson indexes are good for school libraries as it is important that every high school teacher-librarian begins to rethink the role of periodical literature in the school library.

    Abstract
Discusses the rapid increase in the availability of the full text of journals, newspapers, documents and books, online and in CD-ROM, in the recent past, noting that full text now makes up 49% of word oriented databases. Explains the differences between image files, ASCII fullt text which is searchable, and ASCII full text which is displayable and downloadable but not searchable, and gives examples of these. Highlights the full text databases which are being introduced by the H.W. Wilson Company

    Abstract
Until recently, the only way to search the Wilson indexes on CD-ROM was to use the WILSONDISC databases from H.W. Wilson Co. In Summer 93, SilverPlatter Information Inc., announced that they were adding 17 of the Wilson databases to their catalogue of databases. By the end of 1994, all the Wilson databases are expected to be running on SilverPlatter. To compare the 2 systems, searches were conducted using the Wilson Business Abstracts; searching for single search terms; subject headings; and phrases. Concludes that the Wilson indexes are a welcome addition to SilverPlatter's collection combining as it does one of the most reliable sets of indexes with one of the most popular CD-ROM retrieval software packages
