    Abstract
    Der Begriff »E-Learning« klingt zwar für branchenfremde Ohren neudeutsch und modern, doch der Einsatz von »elektronischem Lernen« für die Aus- und Weiterbildung reicht bis in die 60er Jahre zurück und hat damit eine für Trendfreunde enttäuschend verstaubte Tradition. Lernprogramme gehörten neben Computerspielen zu den ersten Anwendungen, für die Rechenmaschinen eingesetzt wurden. Allerdings waren diese frühen Computer noch nicht in der Lage, komplexe Lern programme umzusetzen. Erst der wirtschaftliche Erfolg der Personal Computer mit CD-ROM-Laufwerken trieb auch die Nutzung dieser Technologien im Bildungsbereich voran. Waren die ersten Lernprogramme vor allem im universitären und schulischen Umfeld angesiedelt, experimentierten in den 90ern auch die ersten Unternehmen mit dem Lernen am Computer - allerdings mit wenig überzeugenden Ergebnissen. Es wurden vor allem die so genannten Practice & Drill-Programme eingesetzt, die vorzugsweise aus atemberaubend eintönigen Text- und Aufgabenseiten in starrer Reihenfolge bestanden. Interaktionen wurden nur in Form von schlicht gestrickten Multiple-Choice-Aufgaben angeboten und waren wenig dazu geeignet, die erforderliche Aufmerksamkeit beim Nutzer für die Lerninhalte zu wecken. Didaktisch konnten diese Programme also dem Vergleich mit einem Seminar nicht ansatzweise standhalten und entsprechend unbeliebt war das Thema »computerunterstütztes Lernen« beim Anwender. Zwar konnten die Lerner, wie vollmundig von den Anbietern versprochen, ihr Lerntempo und den Lernort selbst bestimmen, ohne Rücksicht auf Stundenpläne und Vorkenntnisse. Doch nüchtern betrachtet boten ihnen Lehrbücher eigentlich exakt dieselben Möglichkeiten. Diese verfügten eigentlich sogar über eine bessere mediale Qualität als die meisten »Computer Based Trainings«, bei denen die Lerner nun am flackernden Bildschirm und mit zugekniffenen Augen seitenweise Text durcharbeiten sollten. Kein Personalentwickler hätte zu dieser Zeit ernsthaft angenommen, dass E-Learning das klassische »Classroom-Training«, also die Vis-A-Vis-Schulung in einem Seminarraum, jemals ersetzen würde.
