- Seit 1993 verfolgt die DFG das Ziel des Aufbaus einer Handschriftendatenbank für mittelalterliche Handschriften. Grund genug, sich nach einem Rückblick noch einmal der konzeptionellen und methodischen Grundlagen zu versichern. Im einem Datenbankentwurf sind die zu erwartenden Nutzersichten zu integrieren und die handschriftentypischen Schwierigkeiten zu diskutieren. Die neue Situation, Quellen als Digitalisate einbinden zu können, ist dabei zu berücksichtigen.

- Abstract
- Currently, few resources exist to guide libraries in the cataloguing of community information using the new USMARC Format for Cammunity Information (1993). In developing a community information database, Queens Borough Public Library, New York City, formulated their own cataloguing procedures for applying AACR2, LoC File Interpretations, and USMARC Format for Community Information to community information. Their practices include entering corporate names directly whenever possible and assigning LC subject headings for classes of persons and topics, adding neighbourhood level geographic subdivisions. The guidelines were specially designed to aid non cataloguers in cataloguing community information and have enabled library to maintain consistency in handling corporate names and in assigning subject headings, while creating database that is highly accessible to library staff and users

- Abstract
- At the University of Nevada, Las Vergas (UNLV), increases in student population and the creation of new academic programmes resulted in the recruitment of additional teaching faculty. This growth increased acquisitions budgets and collections. Library staff then faced a cataloguing backlog of hundreds of video titles. Describes how the library solved the backlog problem by implementing 'cataloguing shortcuts'. Outlines the previous cataloguing process and the elements which were streamlined by implementing shortcuts. The number of videos catalogued went from 604 in the 1991/2 academic year (prior to the shortcuts) to 804 titles in 1992/3 and 883 titles in 1993/4. The Special Formats Cataloguer now has time to work on formats other than video

- Abstract
- This paper provides a brief overview of the development and current status of the Cataloging-in-Publication (CIP) project in China. The China CIP project is a new one implemented in 1993. In the paper, the development of CIP in the world is described, followed by when and how it was introduced into China. The paper tells the significances of CIP in detail. The implementation of the CIP project and differences of CIP work in China from that in the United States are also reflected here. Finally, the contribution discusses the problems in implementing the project and suggests ways to solve them. The project combines the publishing house, library, and distributor into the document information system. CIP is not only a kind of cataloging, but also a bond among them. It is believed that the CIP project in China has a bright future.
