    Abstract
It is shown how the semantic content of hypertext links can be used for retrieval purposes. Indexing and retrieval algorithms are presented that exploit the link content in addition to the content of the nodes. The results of some retrieval experiments in a hypertext test collection are presented

    Abstract

    Abstract

    Abstract

    Abstract
The Konstanz-Hypertext-System (KHS) is an open hypertext system which employs internal and external information sources to satisfy the user's need for information when navigating through a hypertext. E-mail, Gopher and online databases are available in KHS as external information sources. The main tasks which must be carried out during an online search are analysis of the question, selection of the databases, formulation of a search strategy, online search, feedback and the presentation of the results. All of these tasks are supported within KHS, but special emphasis is given to database selection. Introduces a new method for selecting relevant online databases with KHS using the database descriptions from several hosts

    Abstract
Investigates how linkage environments in a hypertext based bibliographic retrieval system affect retrieval performance for novice and experienced searchers, 2 systems, 1 with inter record linkages to authors and descriptors and 1 that also included title and abstract keywords, were tested. No significant differences in retrieval performance and system usage were found for most search tests. The enhanced system did provide better performance where title and abstract keywords provided the most direct access to relevant records. The findings have implications for the design of bilbiographic information retrieval systems using hypertext linkages

    Abstract
The aim of probabilistic models is to define a retrieval strategy within which documents can be optimally ranked according to their relevance probability with respect to a given request. Presents a study which suggests representing documents not only by index term vendors, as proposed by previous probabilistic models but also by considering relevance hypertext links. To enhance retrieval effectiveness, the learning retrieval scheme should modify the weight assigned to each indexing terms, the importance attached to each search term, and the relationships between documents. Evaluation of the proposed retrieval scheme with a hypertext based on the CACM test collection which includes 3.204 documents and the CISI corpus (1,460 documents), yields interesting results on the retrieval effectiveness of this approach
