    Presents evidence to suggest that the online world needs the bibliographic skills of librarians but that the term bibliographic control is likely to be associated specifically with libraries and liable to misinterpretation. Suggests that it may be time to start talking about information organization which may be described as having the following 4 aspects: making new information bearing entities known; acquiring such entities at certain points of accumulation; providing name, title and subject access to the entities; and providing for the physical location of copies. Urges librarians rapidly to adapt their skills to this increasing need for information organization

    Abstract
    Considers the relationship between traditional forms of knowledge and electronic digitised formats. Suggests a new concept of knowledge is emerging as a result of the potential of computer networks, which will be a generative rather than a consumption model, in which knowledge is no longer associated with fixed structures of ideas embodied in printed text. Argues this points more in the direction of an 'access' rather than a 'holdings' model for the library of the future, with an expanded role for librarians as 'knowledge mediators'

    Interviews Judith Krug, director of the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom. Self cesonship is difficult to identify and combat. ALA tries to negotiate first in cases brought to its notice, but if necessary will bring actions. Among cases won was that against the Communications Decency Act, which threatened to restrict library access to the Internet. Any new Act must define 'indecency' clearly. Censorship for children's sake should be exercised by parents, not librarians. Welcomes IFLA's Committee on Access to Information and Freedom of Expression. Free access must also mean free of charge

    Abstract
    Library professionals in the informatio age are called upon to provide user firendly information environments. To accomplish this, more detailed knowledge is needed about the information behaviour of users. The concept of 'information counselling' reflects this new orientation and involves instruction activities such as: orienting, advising, and reassuring novice learners. The taxonomic approach tranforms self witnessing reports into classified segments of information behaviours at 3 levels of internalization and in 3 behavioural domains, including: affective, cognitive, and sensorimotor behaviour. Reference librarians and instructors are invited to contribute to the taxonomy and make use of it in planning an designing programmes and facilities

    Examines the challenge for librarians presented with members of the public wanting to make use of the Internet, who may anticipate that finding information on the WWW is a relative straightforward matter. Looks at the kind of guidance needed in using both the Windows operating system and Web browsers. Points out that users will have to learn how to cope with the frustrations inherent to the current realities of the Internet, and specific problems such as the need for absolute precision when entering Web addresses.
