- Computergestützte Informations- und Kommunikationssysteme (IuK-Systeme) sind heute zur Lösung betrieblicher Problemstellungen unentbehrlich. Sowohl an Studenten als auch an Praktiker wendet sich dieses Buch, das IuK-Systeme in einem ganzheitlichen Ansatz vorstellt und kritisch analysiert. - Abstract
- Der Begriff der Nachhaltigkeit stammt aus der Ökologie, und wird dort als Methode der Ressourcennutzung verstanden, bei der die Ressource nicht dauerhaft geschädigt wird. Was bedeutet Nachhaltigkeit jedoch in Bezug auf die Ressource Wissen? Wissensorganisation beinhaltet Modellierung, Strukturierung und Vernetzung von Wissen. Modellierung und Strukturierung sind Abstraktionsprozesse; dabei geht es um die Unterscheidung von Wichtigem und Unwichtigem. Das jedoch hängt stark von dem zugrunde liegenden Wertesystem ab, und ist somit gesellschaftlich und kulturell bestimmt. Informationstechnologie unterstützt Systeme und Artefakte der Wissensorganisation, die dem westlichen Wertesystem entsprechen. Die immer schnellere Verbreitung der Kommunikationstechnologie treibt den Prozess der Globalisierung voran, der längst nicht mehr aufhaltbar ist. Im Zuge der Globalisierung werden eurozentrische Methoden und Systeme der Wissensorganisation in alle Welt verbreitet. Die Gefahr der Nivellierung des kulturellen Terrains durch Globalisierung wird von Befürwortern und Gegnern der Globalisierung gleichermaßen anerkannt. Somit heißt Nachhaltigkeit von Wissen, bestehendes Wissen, zum Beispiel indigenes afrikanisches, in gleicher Weise zu konservieren und nicht durch die Entwicklung neuer Technologien zu reduzieren oder zu eliminieren. Diesem Prozess entgegenwirkend besagt Grundsatz 12b der Erd-Charta "Affirm the right of indigenous peoples to their spirituality, knowledge, lands, and resources and to their related practice of sustainable living".

- Abstract
- Die oft beschriebene Zunahme der Relevanz von Information und Wissen ergibt sich nicht nur aus der generellen Erhöhung der Informationsmenge am Markt, sondern auch aus dem Grund der zunehmenden Spezialisierung der 'Knowledge Worker'. Die Bedeutung von Querschnittsfunktionen nimmt im Rahmen dieser permanenten Höherqualifizierung und Spezialisierung naturgemäß zu. So wird es für verschiedene Vertriebsbereiche wichtig, auf gemeinsame Logistik-Erfahrungen zugreifen zu können. Die Produktentwicklung, die Kundenbetreuung und das Marketing müssen auf Ergebnisse der Research-Abteilung zugreifen können. Die Personalabteilung ist ebenso wie die Weiterbildung und die Fachbereiche darauf angewiesen, neuen Mitarbeitern die für eine rasche Einarbeitung relevanten Inhalte schnell zu vermitteln. Informationsmedien wie Daten- oder Dokumentenbanken nehmen also auch bereichsübergreifend zunehmend eine Informationsrolle ein. Die Verwaltung dieser Inhalte stellen die Unternehmen vor nicht kleine Probleme. Mit dem Bereitstellen der Inhalte ist jedoch noch nichts erreicht. Erst wenn die Inhalte auch genutzt werden, kann die Information verwendet werden. Daher kommt der korrekten Strukturierung eine entscheidende Bedeutung zu. In der Praxis stellt sich dies heute als nicht realisierbar@ Anforderung heraus. Das fängt schon bei der TerminologieProblematik an. Kann man sich innerhalb der Research-Abteilung schon nicht einigen, ob Knowledge Management zu Management oder zu Informations-Technologie zugeordnet werden soll, so kann der suchende Anwender im Personalbereich dies erst recht nicht einschätzen und weiß demzufolge auch nicht, wo er denn weiche Inhalte zu suchen hat. Nachem die Research-Abteilung diese Zuordnung nicht eindeutig treffen kann, wird ein zentraler Bereich, der die Informationen verwalten soll, damit sicherlich überfordert sein. Mit der innovativen Grundidee des Topic Map Standards ISO 13250, der eine klare Trennung zwischen Struktur und Inhalt ermöglicht, ergeben sich neue ManagementKonzepte für derartige Inhalte. In dem Vortrag wird zuerst auf die oben genannte Problematik hingewiesen. Danach werden Topic Maps in ihrem Grundprinzip erläutert. Daran schließt sich eine Beschreibung der Organisationskonzepte in grösseren Organisationen an, mit denen die beschriebene Problematik gelöst werden kann

- Abstract
- Das Wirtschaftssystem wandelt sich zu einer global ausgerichteten Netzwerkökonomie. Dies bedeutet einerseits eine zunehmende Initiierung und Abwicklung von Geschäften über das Internet. Andererseits schließen sich Unternehmen zu virtuellen Strukturen mit vernetzten Wertschöpfungsketten zusammen - vom primären Zulieferer bis zum Endvertrieb. Solche Unternehmen erzielen erhebliche Produktivitätszugewinne und Kosteneinsparungen, indem sie Beschaffung, Produktion und Vertrieb über Internet-basierte Informations- und Planungs- und Verwaltungssysteme abwickeln. Kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen eröffnen sich dadurch Möglichkeiten, im Wettbewerb mit Großunternehmen zu bestehen. Darüber hinaus können sie hier ihre Stärke ausspielen, kundenindividuelle Produkte und Dienstleistungen anzubieten. Der Austausch und die Verfügbarkeit von Informationen ist der Rahmen der neuen Ökonomie. Der Bedarf an Fachleuten, die für die Strukturierung von Information und Wissen, der Organisation von Informationsressourcen und -abläufen und der Gestaltung von Informationssystemen in inhaltlicher und technischer Hinsicht verantwortlich sind, ist schon heute kaum abzudecken. Hier setzt die neue Fachdisziplin »Informationswirt schaft« ein, die an der Stuttgarter Hochschule der Medien gelehrt und weiterentwickelt wird. Das Buch ist ein Gemeinschaftswerk der im Studiengang Informationswirtschaft lehrenden Professoren. Es behandelt in seinem einleitenden Beitrag das Modell eines informationswirtschaftlichen Studiums, das den Anspruch erhebt, den Anforderungen an die Qualifikation von Informationsfachleuten gerecht zu werden. Die nachfolgenden Kapitel beschreiben ausgewählte und zugleich zentrale Themen dieses innovativen Forschungsund Arbeitsgebiets. - Abstract
- Library world is actually facing 2 major changes. The one described by the concept of the Digital or Virtual Library let us already anticipate fundamental changes in the products and services libraries will deliver in the future. At present libraries also must react to important economic changes with phenomena like privatisation, deregulation and globalisation of economic processes which - at least in Germany - have now a growing impact on the library and information business. This situation is a real challenge for library management. But unfortunately new management concepts are hardly found in library literature and practice in Germany. Therefore the article wants to give to the library world some ideas on new management and business concepts like the 'learning organisation' or the 'innovative collaborator'
