- Abstract
- Die Digitale Bibliothek hat viele Gesichter und viele Funktionen, Kein des Begriffs ist die Aufbereitung, Zugänglichkeit und Verarbeitung von digitalen - aber auch nichtdigitalen - Quellen. Das Management von elektronischen Informationsressourcen birgt neue Strukturen, neue Paradigmen, neue Arbeitsweisen und neue Informationsvermittlungsmethoden. Noch einer Übersicht über die Begriffsbestimmung "Digitale Bibliothek" werden die Forschungsprogramme und Förderansätze hinsichtlich digitaler Bibliotheksprojekte in den USA, Europa, Asien und Ozeanien dargestellt. Einzelne Aspekte der digitalen Bibliothek werden dann näher erläutert wie die Architektur der digitalen Bibliothek, Metadaten, Dokumentenerstellung, Interoperability, Gateways - Clearinghouses etc., Paradigmenverschiebung, elektronische Zeitschriften, Informationsvermittlung, Abrechungsmodalitäten, Archivierung etc. Weiterhin wird überlegt, was die künftigen Implikationen der Informationseuphorie bzw des "dato smog" sind, wie der Wissenschaftlerarbeitsplatz aussieht und weiche Rolle Bibliothek und Bibliothekare in der Informationsversorgung künftig haben

- Abstract
- Im Vergleich mit der konventionellen Bibliothek stellt der Autor schrittweise die Recherchemöglichkeiten in der virtuellen Bibliothek Internet vor. Dabei werden detailliert Methoden und Strategien zur Informationsgewinnung zunächst beschrieben und anschließend mit Anwendungsaufgaben eingeübt. Die wichtigsten so vorgestellten Bereiche: Kataloge und Suchmaschinen, Diskussionforen, elektronische Nachschlagewerke. Auf die PC-gerechte Weiterverarbeitung der aus dem Internet gewonnenen Daten ('gepackte' Dateien, Texte, Filme, Bilder, Tondokumente) wird ebenfalls eingegangen. Ein Register verzeichnet thematisch geordnet Internet-Adressen für die tägliche Arbeit. Das Buch ist auch hervorragend für die bibliotheksinterne Internet-Schulung geeignet

- Der erste WiNShuttle-Zugang zum Wissenschaftsnetz wurde im Dezember 1995 in der StB Stuttgart geschaltet. Seitdem stehen den Besuchern der StB Computer mit ZUgang zum Internet zur Verfügung. Einführungen und Veranstaltungen zum Thema ergänzen das Angebot. Mit WiNShuttle wird es öffentlichen Bibliotheken möglich, ihr traditionelle Informationsangebot mit digitalen Informationen 'aus dem Netz' zu ergänzen. - Abstract
- Auf dem Weg in die globale Informationsgesellschaft werden öffentliche Bibliotheken ihre Dienstleistungen entsprechend modifizieren müssen. In dieser Arbeit wird deshalb zunächst die Rolle öffentlicher Bibliotheken in der Informationsgesellschaft diskutiert, die sich daraus ergebenden neuen Aufgabenbereiche der Bibliotheken, Applikationsfelder des Internet in der bibliothekarischen Praxis, sowie Probleme des Einsatzes von Internet in öffentlichen Bibliotheken besprochen. Im zweiten Teil der Arbeit wird die Studie des Project GAIN vorgestellt, um Erfahrungswerte öffentlicher Bibliotheken zur Installation eines Internet-Anschlusses und der Integration des Internet in deren Service vorzulegen. Die Helsinki City Library und die Internet Public Library liefern außerdem Beispiele einer kreativen Umsetzung tradtioneller Dienstleistungen öffentlicher Bibliotheken in Internet-Serviceleistungen. Das abschließende Kapitel thematisiert die Wichtigkeit einer Einbindung öffentlicher Bibliotheken in kommunale Netzwerke

- Wer Technik gestalten möchte, muß sich einmischen und am besten dann, wenn die Technik erst am Anfang ihrer Entwicklung steht. Nach dieser Maxime hat sich das 'Forum Soziale Technikgestaltung' in Baden-Württemberg an der Diskussion über Multimedia von Anfang an beteiligt und mit seinen Vorschlägen große Resonanz sowohl in der Politik wie auch in der Industrie erfahren. - Abstract
- Ein Jahr haben die Bremer im Rahmen des BINE-Projekts Erfahrungen mit der benutzerorientierten Erschließung von Internet-Quellen sammeln können, vor allem aber auch damit, was alles an Vorarbeiten zu leisten ist, ehe eine Bibliothekn ihren Kunden Ergebnisse präsentieren kann. Der folgende Bericht erläutert die empirischen Grundlagen, stellt erste entwickelt Instrumentarien sowie Kriterien der Beurteilung von Internetressourcen vor und zeigt Perspektiven für eine kooperative bibliothekarische Zusammenarbeit auf

- Reports results of an e-mail questionnaire survey of 161 UK local authorities to determine their use of the WWW for the dissemination of information. Identifies the resons for its adoption, the benefits and disadvantages and the types of information being disseminated by this means.
