- Abstract
- Sei es, daß in einem stark expandierenden Unternehmen ein neues Informationszentrum gegründet werden soll, sei es, daß im Rahmen der Rezession große Informations- und Dokumentationsabteilungen drastisch in ihrem Personalbestand eingeschränkt werden, sei es, daß neue Entwicklungsbereiche und -märkte die Nutzung anderer Informationsquellen erforderlich machen, die nicht zu den Standardwerkzeugen der IuD-Abteilungen gehören - in all diesen Fällen stellt sich die frage: wo erhalte ich außerhalb des Unternehmens schnell die kompetente Ergänzung, die die reibungslose Arbeit des Informationszentrums garantiert oder gar die Palette der angebotenen Dienstleistungen erweitert?

- Abstract
- Durch die Kürzungen im Kulturbereich, Einstellungsstops und das Einfrieren von Etats, ganz zu schweigen von den Bibliothekszusammenlegungen und -schließungen, stellt sich die Frage, ob die Bibliotheken ihre Aufgaben erfüllen, erfüllen können oder ob sie sich vielleicht ihre Aufgabenstellung neu durchdenken sollten. Ebenso weiter unten in der Hierarchie kann die Fragestellung genauso für die Informationsvermittlung zutreffen: welche sind die Hauptgegenstände der Informationsvermittlung, welches sind die Zielgruppen, wie charakterisierut man sie, und wie werden die Informationen an die Benutzer vermittelt?

- Abstract
- Die Digitale Bibliothek hat viele Gesichter und viele Funktionen, Kein des Begriffs ist die Aufbereitung, Zugänglichkeit und Verarbeitung von digitalen - aber auch nichtdigitalen - Quellen. Das Management von elektronischen Informationsressourcen birgt neue Strukturen, neue Paradigmen, neue Arbeitsweisen und neue Informationsvermittlungsmethoden. Noch einer Übersicht über die Begriffsbestimmung "Digitale Bibliothek" werden die Forschungsprogramme und Förderansätze hinsichtlich digitaler Bibliotheksprojekte in den USA, Europa, Asien und Ozeanien dargestellt. Einzelne Aspekte der digitalen Bibliothek werden dann näher erläutert wie die Architektur der digitalen Bibliothek, Metadaten, Dokumentenerstellung, Interoperability, Gateways - Clearinghouses etc., Paradigmenverschiebung, elektronische Zeitschriften, Informationsvermittlung, Abrechungsmodalitäten, Archivierung etc. Weiterhin wird überlegt, was die künftigen Implikationen der Informationseuphorie bzw des "dato smog" sind, wie der Wissenschaftlerarbeitsplatz aussieht und weiche Rolle Bibliothek und Bibliothekare in der Informationsversorgung künftig haben

- Der erste WiNShuttle-Zugang zum Wissenschaftsnetz wurde im Dezember 1995 in der StB Stuttgart geschaltet. Seitdem stehen den Besuchern der StB Computer mit ZUgang zum Internet zur Verfügung. Einführungen und Veranstaltungen zum Thema ergänzen das Angebot. Mit WiNShuttle wird es öffentlichen Bibliotheken möglich, ihr traditionelle Informationsangebot mit digitalen Informationen 'aus dem Netz' zu ergänzen. Gleichzeitig leisten sie einen Beitrag zur Vorbereitung ihrer Nutzer auf die Informationsgesellschaft

- Abstract
- Auf dem Weg in die globale Informationsgesellschaft werden öffentliche Bibliotheken ihre Dienstleistungen entsprechend modifizieren müssen. In dieser Arbeit wird deshalb zunächst die Rolle öffentlicher Bibliotheken in der Informationsgesellschaft diskutiert, die sich daraus ergebenden neuen Aufgabenbereiche der Bibliotheken, Applikationsfelder des Internet in der bibliothekarischen Praxis, sowie Probleme des Einsatzes von Internet in öffentlichen Bibliotheken besprochen. Im zweiten Teil der Arbeit wird die Studie des Project GAIN vorgestellt, um Erfahrungswerte öffentlicher Bibliotheken zur Installation eines Internet-Anschlusses und der Integration des Internet in deren Service vorzulegen. Die Helsinki City Library und die Internet Public Library liefern außerdem Beispiele einer kreativen Umsetzung tradtioneller Dienstleistungen öffentlicher Bibliotheken in Internet-Serviceleistungen. Das abschließende Kapitel thematisiert die Wichtigkeit einer Einbindung öffentlicher Bibliotheken in kommunale Netzwerke

- Abstract
- Die vorliegende Arbeit kritisiert den kürzlich veröffentlichten Entwurf eines Ethik-Kodex für Informationsvermittler unter verschiedenen Gesichtspunkten. Einmal das Verfahren: Die Gültigkeit eines Ethik-Kodex setzt einen Konsens voraus, der mittels eines diskursiven Verfahrens (Entwicklung, Diskussion, Überarbeitung, Verabschiedung) erzielt wurden. Für den Fall von Regelverletzungen müssen hierbei Sanktionen vorgesehen sein. Zum zweiten der Inhalt: Der vorliegende Entwurf verkürzt die ethische Gesamtproblematik auf den ökonomischen Aspekt und enthält darüber hinaus eine Fülle von Unklarheiten, Fehlern und Schludrigkeiten. Die Verfasser fordern fordern einen gedanklichen und verfahrensmäßigen Neuanfang, der sich etwa am Vorgehen der deutschen Soziologen orientieren könnte; dieses Verfahren wird beispielhaft in ausführlicher Weise beschrieben

- Abstract
- Es wird ein Konzept zur Intensivierung der fachlichen Auskunftstätigkeit und zum Ausbau von auskunftsunterstützenden Informationsbeziehungen zwischen bestehenden Informationseinrichtungen vorgestellt. Die zur Zeit beobachtbaren Vorbehalte der kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen gegenüber einer intensiveren Nutzung elektronischer Fachinformation werden angesprochen, es werden die tatsächlich artikulierten Informationsbedürfnisse im mittelständischen Bereich charakterisiert und aus diesen Rahmenbedingungen ein Vorschlag zur Harmonisierung und Optimierung bereits vorhandener Auskunftsdienste abgeleitet. Der Autor beschreibt charakteristische Funktionene und Komponenten von Auskunftsagenturen und nennt die Harmonisierung von Auskunftsstandards als wesentliche Voraussetzung zur Qualitätssicherung im Auskunftsbereich. Dabei wird der Aufbau informaller Netzwerke zwischen Auskunftsstellen als besonders wichtig für eine übergreifende, anfrager-orientierte und effiziente Auskunftstätigkeit herausgestellt

- Abstract
- Im Gegensatz zu den Entwicklungen elektronischer Informationsdienste im Geschäftsbereich verzögerte sich der Take-off der elektronischen Konsumentendienste, aber seit 1995 befinden sich auch die Consumer Services im Boom. Soweit es um die zentrale wirtschaftliche Größe 'Umsatz' geht, wurden diese Entwicklungen bislang nicht von der Marktforschung erfaßt. Erstmalig wurden in den jährlichen Umsatzerhebungen des Institute for Information Economics auch die Anbieter elektronischer Konsumentendienste sowie die Internetanbieter im Internet einbezogen. Damit wird erstmalig eine fundierte Schätzung der Größe des Gesamtmarktes für elektronische Informationsdienste für geschäftliche und private Zwecke möglich. Die Interpretation der gewonnenen Ergebnisse führt zu Einsichten, die nach dem Stand der öffentlichen Diskussion zum Teil überraschen
