Bereits der Veranstaltungs- und Buchtitel legen nahe, dass die Aktivitäten einer Teaching Library zu einer bibliothekarischen Kernaufgabe geworden sind. In sieben Beiträgen von Referenten und weiteren deutschen Spezialisten auf dem Gebiet der Vermittlung und Förderung von Informationskompetenz wird das Thema sowohl unter theoretischem als auch unter praktischem Blickwinkel beleuchtet. Dabei spannt sich der Bogen von der Beschreibung von Programmen zur Sprach- und Leseförderung für Kinder und Jugendliche in Stadtbibliotheken des Berliner Bezirks Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, deren Startmodul "Wort-Stark" von der Unternehmensberatung McKinsey 2005 beim Wettbewerb "Chancengerechtigkeit - alle Talente fördern" ausgezeichnet wurde und deren Module auf andere Gegebenheiten und Bibliotheken übertragbar sind (Katrin Seewald) bis hin zur Vermittlung von lnformationskompetenz für Fortgeschrittene an der Universitätsbibliothek Konstanz (Oliver Kohl-Frey). ... Insgesamt liegt mit "Teaching Library- eine Kernaufgabe für Bibliotheken" ein Werk vor, das für all jene Bibliothekare interessant ist, die sich mit dem Thema in seiner ganzen Bandbereite näher auseinandersetzen wollen. Literaturhinweise und Verweise aufWebseiten laden außerdem ein, sich in die jeweilige Thematik weiter zu vertiefen. Interessantwäre in diesem Zusammenhang auch eine zusammenfassende Darstellung und Aufarbeitung der Aktivitäten österreichischer Bibliotheken.
