    Abstract
Presents an assessment of Bulletin Board for Libraries (BUBL). This major electronic information resource for librarians operates from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. The main Home Page offering is BUBL Link (Librarians for Networked Knowledge), which utilises a WWW/Z39.50 system to access thousands of Internet sources, catalogues by BUBL in exactly the same way that librarians are accustomed to in dealing with bibliographic documents. Other services include BUBL Journals (indexes, abstracts); BUBL search; and BUBL Mail

    Abstract
Describes a WWW based system which allows users to view, search and post geographically indexed information of the Earth. 2 geographic browsers have been developed: a 2D map browser capable of continuous scroll and zoom of an arbitrarily large sheet and a 3D flight-simulator browser capable of continuous flight around the Earth. On the server side, a geographical and geometrical server has been developed which contains large databases of images, elevations, lines, points and polygons stored in tiles structured into hierarchical pyramids or quadtrees. A metadata server has also been developed which contains URL pointers and geographical coordinates of various WWW documents, geographical information and geometrical models

    Abstract
An increasing numner of CD-ROM products, as well as online products previously accessible via telnet or other dial-up ooptions, are now being made accessible via the WWW. Discusses the usefulness to the academic reference librarian of Web-based databases comparing them to CD-ROM, print and online reference resources. One of the most important reasons for selecting Web-based databases is the opportunity for remote end-user access, particularly essential for distance education programmes. Describes recent research that shows that whatever the format, there is an increased need for user instruction in the appropriate use of reference material
