Mit der Vernetzung der unterschiedlichen Informationsangebote im Internet wird Wissen umfassend zugänglich gemacht. Ein Beispiel für die Vernetzung zwischen Wikipedia und Bibliothekskatalogen ist die Kooperation mit der Personennamendatei, der Normdatei für Personennamen. Der Artikel möchte beleuchten, wie diese Kooperation funktioniert und welchen Nutzen sie hat.

    Abstract
    Am 1. Oktober 2000 fiel der offizielle Startschuss für ein neues Projekt im Rahmen der Digitalen Bibliothek NRW. Bisher ist der Zugriff auf die Digibib <www.digibib.net> den Nutzern der Bibliotheken der staatlichen Hochschulen Nordrhein-Westfalens vorbehalten. Lediglich einige kostenfreie Datenbanken können über den sogenannten "externen Zugang" genutzt werden. Nun soll, über einen Zeitraum von zweieinhalb Jahren, der Grundstein gelegt werden für den Anschluss der Öffentlichen Bibliotheken. Drei Öffentliche Bibliotheken, die Stadt- und Landesbibliothek Dortmund, die StadtBibliothek Köln und die Stadtbüchereien Düsseldorf, haben sich entschlossen, als Pilotanwender ihren Nutzern den Zugang zu diesem Such- und Informationswerkzeug zu bieten, das einen der derzeit innovativsten Ansätze der Informationsversorgung darstellt

    Abstract
    Im Rahmen der Dienstleistungen von Bibliotheken sind Datenbankangebote von zentraler Bedeutung. Zum einen sind Bibliotheken Datenbankproduzenten, wie etwa im Falle von Verbundkatalogen oder OPACs, zum anderen wenden sie erhebliche Mittel zur Lizenzierung der Nutzung von bibliographischen Datenbanken auf. Angesichts der dadurch gebundenen personellen und finanziellen Ressourcen ist eine Evaluierung der Qualität von Datenbankprodukten unabdingbar. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden mögliche Beurteilungskriterien für die Qualität von bibliographischen Datenbanken diskutiert und zu den verschiedenen Teilschritten von Datenbankentwicklung und -produktion in Beziehung gesetzt. Dadurch werden Perspektiven einer zielgerichteten und effizienten Erstellung und Weiterentwicklung von bibliothekarischen und dokumentarischen Datenbankangeboten aufgezeigt. Weiterhin werden exemplarisch Untersuchungsergebnisse zur Qualität von bibliographischen Datenbanken vorgestellt. Der konsequente Einsatz der dazugehörigen Prüfverfahren stellt etwaige Auswahlentscheidungen zwischen konkurrierenden Datenbankprodukten auf eine fundierte Basis und versetzt Bibliotheken in die Lage, Endnutzer besser über Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Nutzung der jeweils im Angebot befindlichen Datenbanken zu informieren.

    Abstract
    Die föderalistisch geprägte Struktur des Bibliothekswesens in Deutschland ließ bisher viele Projekte an den Grenzen des eigenen Bundeslandes enden. Die technischen Möglichkeiten des Internets bieten einen besonderen Anreiz, die Vorteile länderübergreifender Zusammenarbeit zu nutzen. Der Beitrag schildert das Zustandekommen der Kooperation der nordrhein-westfälischen und bayerischen Fachhochschulbibliotheken in Bezug auf das gemeinsame, hochschulspezifische Fachinformationsangebot FINT!.
