- Abstract
- Das Web 2.0 hat einen Paradigmenwechsel im Umgang mit Informationen und damit eng verbunden im Wissenserwerb eingeleitet. Theoretisch gesehen hat jeder offenen Zugang zu vielfältigen Informationen und kann gleichzeitig selbst Inhalte beisteuern - z.B. in Sozialen Netzwerken, in Weblogs oder Wikis - und Websites oder andere Dokumente (Videos, Slideshows o.ä.) veröffentlichen und mit anderen Nutzern teilen. Dieser Demokratisierungsprozess von Wissensproduktion, -kommunikation und -erwerb ist allerdings nicht frei von Kontroversen. Das verstärkte Nebeneinander von sachlich richtiger und relevanter Information einerseits und Belanglosigkeiten andererseits ruft auch Gegner auf den Plan. Sie sprechen von einem Information Overkill und befürchten den Niedergang der klassischen Bildung. Führen freie Wissenszugänge im Netz tatsächlich zu weniger Bildung? Was macht eine Website zu einer zuverlässigen und vertrauenswürdigen Quelle? Wie können aus der Fülle von Webressourcen die qualitativ hochwertigen herausgefiltert werden? Welchen Beitrag kann dabei Social Software leisten? Welches sind die Konstituenten einer Informationskompetenz 2.0, über die User verfügen sollten, um mit vorgefundenen Ressourcen adäquat umgehen zu können? Und inwiefern sind Bibliotheken - die sich ja zunehmend als Teaching Libraries verstehen - hier gefordert? Auf diese Fragen versucht das vorliegende Buch Antworten zu geben. Der Fokus liegt auf dem Umgang mit Wissensressourcen im Web 2.0, wobei ebenso theoretische wie praktische Implikationen berücksichtigt und ausgewählte Evaluierungsansätze hinsichtlich ihrer praktischen Anwendbarkeit für die User diskutiert werden.

- Nach Abschluß des von der DFG geförderten Projektes 'SSG-Fachinformationssysteme im Internet' legt die Projektgruppe der SUB Göttingen eine ausführliche Dokumentation des Projektkonzeptes vor. Ziel des Projektes war es, ein bibliothekarisches Konzept zu entwickeln, wie Internet-Ressourcen - wobei hierunter nicht einzelne elektronische Dokumente verstanden werden, sondern sog. thematische Server - in das Sammel- und Erschließungskonzept einer wissenschaftlichen Biblithek integriert werden können

- "Wissenschaftler brauchen fundierte Informationen aus Quellen, auf die man sich verlassen kann. Die Suche nach solchen Quellen, wissenschaftlichen Aufsätzen, Dissertationen, Büchern, Datenbanken und Linklisten gestaltete sich bislang schwierig: Bibliotheken oder Verlage von Fachzeitschriften mussten einzeln angesteuert werden, einen zentralen, einheitlichen und einfachen Zugang gab es bislang, nicht. Das soll sich jetzt ändern: Das vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) und von der Deutschen; Forschungsgemeinsehaft (DFG) geförderte Internetportal "vascoda", das nach dem Willen seiner Initiatoren auch Grundbaustein für die "Digitale Bibliothek Deutschland" sein soll, will Forschern Zugang zu wissenschaftlicher Information unterschiedlichster Fachrichtungen und unterschiedlichster Formate bieten. Das ist bundesweit in dieser Form ebenso einzigartig wie die Tatsache, dass die an vascoda angeschlossenen Datenbanken ausschließlich ;,geprüfte" Informationen liefern sollen: "Fachbibliothekare und Fachwissenschaftler der Anbieter, die sich unter dem vascoda-Dach zusammengeschlossen haben, prüfen, welche Texte vdrfügbar gemacht werden", sagt Christine Burblies von der vascoda-Geschäftsstelle in Hannover. "So können wir gewährleisten, dass die Informationen wissenschaftlichen Ansprüchen genügen." Das macht dann auch den wesentlichen Unterschied zu anderen Suchmaschinen aus: Die Suchmaske des Wissenschaftsportals ist zwar ähnlich einfach zu handhaben wie die Internet-Suchmaschine Google - vascoda verirrt sich aber nicht im World Wide Web. Und während andere Internet-Suchmaschinen nicht den Zugriff auf das so genannte "invisible web" bieten, also beispielsweise auf Bibliothekskataloge, ermöglicht vascoda auch den Zugriff auf dieses unsichtbare Netz. Das Wissenschaftsportal ist unentgeltlich nutzbar, und auch ein Großteil der Informationen ist kostenlos zu beziehen. Es sind aber auch kostenpflichtige Informationen verfügbar - zum Beispiel aus Verlagsangeboten und kommerziellen Datenbanken. Wer Informationen etwa zu soziologischen Fragen sucht, landet sicher auch auf den Internetseiten des Instituts für Soziologie in Darmstadt (www.ifs.tu-darmstadt.de/forsch.htm), das ebenso zu den vascoda-Anbietern gehört wie das Deutsche Institut für Internationale Pädagogik (DIPF) in Frankfurt (www.dipfde/index_1024.htm). In vascoda eingebunden sind zur Zeit 23 virtuelle Fachbibliotheken (ViFas), die vier großen Informationsverbünde EconDoc (Wirtschaft), GetInfo (Naturwissenschaften und Technik), infoconnex (Pädagogik, Sozialwissenschaften, Psychologie) und Medizin sowie die Elektronische Zeitschriftenbibliothek (EZB), ein kooperativer Service von 209 Bibliotheken zur Bereitstellung von elektronischen Zeitschriften, -die im Internet publiziert werden. "Wir planen überdies die Erweiterung um das Fach Germanistik, und wenn es soweit ist, wird die Stadt- und Universitätsbibliothek Frankfurt diesen Service bereitstellen", sagt Burblies."

- Abstract
- A unique collection of historical material covering the lives and events of an English village between 1400 and 1750 has been made available via a WWW enabled information retrieval system. Since the expected readership of the documents ranges from school children to experienced researchers, providing this information in an easily accessible form has offered many challenges requiring tools to aid searching and browsing. The file structure of the document collection was replaced by an database, enabling query results to be presented on the fly. A Java interface displays each user's context in a form that allows for easy and intuitive relevance feedback

- Abstract
- Evit@ stellt ein Bewertungsinstrument bereit, mit dessen Hilfe qualitative Aussagen über elektronische Informationsmittel möglich werden. Eine Stärke des Verfahrens liegt auf der vergleichenden Produktanalyse und auf einem weitgehend entindividualisierten Ansatz. Das entwickelte Kriteriensystem geht in seiner Differenziertheit über alle bisherigen Ansätze hinaus. Das Verfahren der produkttypenbezogenen Gewichtung eignet sich besonders bei der quantifizierenden Beschreibung aller wesentlichen Eigenschaften und Leistungsmerkmale elektronischer Informationsmittel. Über eine eigens entwikkelte Softwarekomponente kann das Bewertungsergebnis sowohl auf jede einzelne Kategorie bezogen als auch in Form eines kondensierten Endergebnisses dargestellt werden. Diese Ergebnisse bieten im Sinne eines Qualitätsurteils Hilfestellung für Auswahl und Kaufentscheidungen. Für Produzenten elektronischer Informationsmittel kann Evit@ darüber hinaus als Checkliste zur Qualitätssicherung eingesetzt werden.

- Abstract
- In this study, we attempt to evaluate the performance of the World Wide Web as an information resource in the domain of international travel. The theoretical framework underpinning our approach recognizes the contribution of models of information seeking behavior and of information systems in explaining World Wide Web usage as an information resource. Specifically, a model integrating the construct of uncertainty in information seeking and the task-technology fit model is presented. To test the integrated model, 217 travelers participated in a questionnaire-based empirical study. Our results confirm that richer (or enhanced) models are required to evaluate the broad context of World Wide Web (the Web) usage as an information resource. Use of the Web for travel tasks, for uncertainty reduction, as an information resource, and for mediation all have a significant impact an users' perception of performance, explaining 46% of the variance. Additionally, our study contributes to the testing and validation of metrics for use of the Web as an information resource in a specific domain.

- Abstract
- Die seit ca. 1996 rasche Entwicklung des Internet bzw. des World Wide Web (WWW) hat die Praxis der Veröffentlichung, Verbreitung und Nutzung wissenschaftlicher Informationen grundlegend verändert. Um diese Informationen suchbar und retrievalfähig zu gestalten, ist in den letzten Jahren international viel diskutiert worden. Ein vielversprechender Ansatz, diesen neuen Herausforderungen zu begegnen, liegt in der Entwicklung von Metadatenprofilen. Da durch das Internet verschiedene Datenbestände, die von unterschiedlichen Bereichen wie Museen, Bibliotheken, Archiven etc. vorgehalten werden, unter einer Oberfläche durchsucht werden können, können Metadaten auch in diesem Bereich dazu beitragen, ein einheitliches Konzept zur Beschreibung und zum Retrieval von Online-Ressourcen zu entwickeln. Um die verteilt liegenden Dokumente unter einer Oberfläche für eine qualitativ hochwertige Recherche ("Cross-Search`) anbieten zu können, ist die Verständigung auf ein Core-Set an Metadaten und daran anschließend verschiedene Mappingprozesse ("Cross-walk`) von den lokalen Metadatenformaten zu dem Format des Core-Set an Metadaten notwendig. Ziel des Artikels' ist es, die einzelnen Schritte, die für die Entwicklung eines Metadatenprofils für die gemeinsame Suche über verteilte Metadatensammlungen notwendig sind, aufzuzeigen.

Neue web-basierte Dienstleistungen und Produkte erlauben dem professionellen Informationsbroker ebenso wie dem gelegentlichen Onliner oder Internet Pedestrian den effizienten und kostengünstigen Zugang zu Metadaten, naturwissenschaftlich-technisehen Daten und Fakten. Elektronische Volltexte per Hyperlink oder die komplette Dokument-Vermittlung werden gleichfalls angeboten. - Abstract
- Die Abschlusstagung des Projekts "Dissertationen Online" in Berlin am 30. und 31. Oktober 2000 endete nicht mit einem Schlussstrich für das Projekt, sondern mit einem Aufruf zur Beteiligung an der Fortführung der Ideen und des Konzepts unter der Schirmherrschaft Der Deutschen Bibliothek: "DissOnline.de". Dieses Unternehmen resultiert aus zwei Jahren Entwicklungsarbeit an den Standorten Berlin, Duisburg, Oldenburg, Erlangen und Göttingen im Projekt "Dissertationen Online", dessen Ergebnisse den zahlreichen Teilnehmern auf dieser Tagung vorgestellt wurden. Exemplarisch für den Bereich der wissenschaftlichen Qualifikationsarbeiten hat das DFG-Projekt "Dissertationen Online" Lösungen und Hilfen für Erstellung, Erschließung, Retrieval und Archivierung solcher Schriften entwickelt. Diese Hilfen und Werkzeuge betreffen Fragen urheberrechtlicher Natur zwischen Autoren, Fakultäten und Bibliotheken, sowie Der Deutschen Bibliothek und den Verlagen, die Strukturierung von Metadaten und Volltexten zur dokumentarischen Erschließung, die Suchverfahren für Metadaten und Volltexte auf den Servern der Hochschule und der Deutschen Bibliothek, die Formate für Darstellung, Druck, Retrieval und Archivierung, die Konzeption des Workflow zwischen Autoren, Fakultäten, Bibliotheken und Der Deutschen Bibliothek, die Archivierung auf zertifizierten Dokumentservern der Universitäten, sowie die Konzeption einer hoch qualitativen Unterstützung der Autoren, die unter anderem eine Umsetzung in multimediale Hilfen und Schulungsmaterialien für alle Beteiligten vorsieht. Alle diese Lösungen favorisieren dabei offene Standards und sind mit den internationalen Partnern der "Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations" (NTLTD) abgestimmt

- Abstract
- National institutions in the international community have realized the importance and significance of digital documents living an the World Wide Web as a part of the current cultural history. Collecting, preserving and giving access to this vast collection of information is a challenge of great importance. This article points at some general focus area, and goes more in depth an access to Web archives. The Nordic Web Archive project is described to some extent.The project has pointed at some alternative ways of enabling users to take benefit of Web archives, and it also brings experiences an the access area forward.
