    Abstract
    Multimedia wird unser Leben vermutlich ähnlich einschneidend verändern, wie der Buchdruck im 15. Jahrhundert unsere gesamte Kultur revolutioniert hat. Welche Veränderungen die neue Kommunikationstechnologie bringen wird, hängt nicht nur von der Hard- und Software der Multimediasysteme ab, sondern auch von der Hard- und Software des Menschen - von Gehirnprozessen und psychologischen 'Programmen' beim Denken, Wahrnehmen und Fühlen. Die Möglichkeiten, aber auch die Grenzen multimedialer Information werden deutlich, wenn man sich etwa vor Augen führt, wie viel Information wir allein beim Sehen ausblenden, wie wir Information im Gedächtnis abspeichern, wie wir verschiedenen Sinne synchronisieren. Auch für Medien gilt: Weniger ist manchmal mehr. Wenn man das Buch in die Hand nimmt und die Demonstrationsprogramme auf der beiliegenden CD-ROM dazu anschaut, wird man verstehen, warum es immer noch gewinnbringend ist, ein Buch zu lesen, und warum es durch ein elektronisches Medium sinnvoll ergänzt werden kann

    Abstract
    Wer Technik gestalten möchte, muß sich einmischen und am besten dann, wenn die Technik erst am Anfang ihrer Entwicklung steht. Nach dieser Maxime hat sich das 'Forum Soziale Technikgestaltung' in Baden-Württemberg an der Diskussion über Multimedia von Anfang an beteiligt und mit seinen Vorschlägen große Resonanz sowohl in der Politik wie auch in der Industrie erfahren.     Abstract
    In der Multimedia-Industrie herrscht weitgehende Kklarheit darüber, wie die technologische Zukunft in diesem Bereich aussehen soll - weniger klar sind die wirtschaftlichen Prognosen. Die hängen nämlich von denen ab, die die neuen Multimedia-Produkte und -dienstleistungen kaufen sollen und noch weitgehend im Unklaren darüber sind, was auf sie zukommt. Genau das hat das Institut für Zukunftsstudien und Technologiebewertung in Berlin im Auftrag des Büros für Technikfolgen-Abschätzung beim Deutschen Bundestag analysiert und eine Studie vorgelegt zum Thema 'Multimedia im Privathaushalt; Grundlagen, Chancen und Herausforderungen'.     Abstract
    Das Faktum, Daß Nachrichtentechnik, das Verlagswesen, Film-Funk-Fernsehen (FFF) zum 'Global village' zusammenwachsen, ist mittlerweile hinlänglich bekannt. Über die technische Verfügbarkeit neuer Systeme und Anwendungen halten uns die Medien auf dem laufenden, wohingegen die Formen der Präsentation ins Hintertreffen geraten. Unter Präsentationsformen ist in diesem Zusammenhang die 'marktfähige Verpackung' der Inhalte zu verstehen. Dies ist eine Themestellung, die insbesondere für den IuD-Bereich von Interesse ist.     Abstract
    Die Chancen der neuen Informations- und Kommunikationstechniken werden gefeiert. Doch darüber, welche gravierenden gesellschaftlichen Konsequenzen Multimedia haben wird, wuchern die Spekulationen. Um die möglichen Entwicklungspfade zu erforschen, hat der Deutschen Bundestag nun eine Enquete-Kommission eingerichtet. Medienkompetenz für den einzelnen Bürger zu schaffen, ist eine der ersten Forderungen.     Wenn man Presseveröffentlichungen als Basis nimmt, so deckt die Bezeichnung 'Multimedia' einen Bereich ab, der von der Spiele-CD-ROM über multimediale Shows und das Video-Document-Conferencing bis hin zum Internet und zum interaktiven Fernsehen reicht. Manche Experten betrachten zwar das Computer-Based-Training (CBT) als eine der zentralen Anwendungen im Bereich Multimedia, aber schaut man sich einmal die Anwendungen an, die aus der Sicht der Anbieter 'Zielmärkte' sind, so trifft man meist auf Begriffe wie Präsentation, Werbung, Verkaufsförderung, Unternehmenskommunikation und Schulung.     Abstract
    Zu den großen Schlagworten unserer Zeit gehört Multimedia. Gleichzeitig ist kein Bereich der Informationstechnologien so starken Veränderungen unterworfen, sei es durch neue Hardware oder durch neue Software. Dabei hat die Entwicklung inzwischen ein Niveau erreicht, das den breiten Einsatz in und für Unternehmen fast zwangsläufig erscheinen läßt.
