    Abstract
Outlines the problems which character sets limited to one byte and 256 characters have generated for library systems. Considers the benefits of the Unicode standard which is a 16 bit fixed width character encoding standard allowing room for more than 65.000 characters. Discusses the extent to which it is being used by applications, noting that some library system suppliers are implementing it, while some argue that the major operating systems do not yet cater for it adequately

    Abstract
Presents a brief survey of the emergence of MARC formats, their components, standardization efforts, and the UseMARCON conversion program by means of which any MARC format can be converted to any other. HUNMARC was issued in 1994 in accordance with Hungarian standards of librarianship. Some important questions arising in connection with the implementation of HUNMARC can be answered by comparing the HUNMARC and USMARC formats

    Abstract
FinMeSH, for Finish medical and health information users has been prepared by cooperation between professional societies and institutions as well as through international relations. MeSH has a global and a local section. It would be helpful for efficient information retrieval and availability of medical and health care information, if the complete global structure could be reflected in live local concepts

    Abstract
As part of an elaboration of a Hungarian General Keyword System, clarifies the problem of spelling compound words either as a single word or as 2 words in Hungarian. Overviews the basic grammatical principles which are formulated in word spelling rules, and illustrates through examples some simple consequences of these rules. Discusses unsolved questions, including designated structures. Proposes solutions based logically on similar linguistical phenomena, and considers language historical aspects
