    Abstract
    ILEKS (Internet-Lektoratsservice) als Nachnutzung des BINE-Projekts läuft derzeit als Initiative der Stadtbibliotheken in Bremen, Berlin, Paderborn und Hannover sowie der Büchereizentrale Schleswig-Holstein und der Landesfachstelle für Öffentliche Bibliotheken an der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek. Die Konsortialpartner wählen zu den Themenbereichen "Reisen", "Krebs", "Computer", "Computerspiele", "Kriminalliteratur", "Musik" sowie "Berlin" und "Bremen" Internetquellen aus, bewerten und erschließen sie. Um diesen Dienstleistungsservice thematisch zu erweitern, muss die Beteiligung auf eine breitere Basis gestellt werden. Dazu gibt es eine Initiative des dbv, die mit externer Finanzierung durch zwei private Partner, der Bertelsmann-Stiftung und der SISIS GmbH, ein weiterführendes Projekt "Internetbibliothek. de" ins Leben gerufen hat. Das Konzept ILEKS und die bis dato gemachten Erfahrungen sind ein wichtiger Meilen- und Baustein der Online-Distribution neuer Servicedienstleistungen der Öffentlichen Bibliotheken für Wissen und Information!

    "Für die "Brockhaus Enzyklopädie digital", zu der das Fraunhofer-Institut IPSI in Darmstadt wesentliche technologische Beiträge geleistet hat, erhielt der Verlag Bibliographisches Institut & F.A. Brockhaus AG (Mannheim) am 21. Mai den AKEP Award 2006. Damit zeichnet der Arbeitskreis Elektronisches Publizieren (AKEP) des VerlegerAusschusses im Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels die innovativsten elektronischen Entwicklungen in Verlagen aus. "Die 'Brockhaus Enzyklopaedie digital' hebt sich von den anderen nominierten Produkten wesentlich ab und bietet durch das Zusammenspiel unterschiedlicher Informationen neue Perspektiven auf die Welt und das Wissen", begründete Arnoud de Kemp, Jury-Sprecher und Sprecher des AKEP, die Entscheidung. Das Nachschlagewerk übertreffe alle bisher erhältlichen CD-ROM- und DVD-Enzyklopädien an Umfang und Funktionalitäten. Besonders beeindruckt hat die Jury die unterschiedlichen Möglichkeiten, wie man nach Wissen suchen kann. So reagiert die Suchmaschine auf die Eingabe komplexer Fragesätze (natürlichsprachliche Suchhilfe) und stellt im dreidimensionalen Wissensraum assoziative Zusammenhänge dar. Zudem haben etliche Objekte in diesem 3D-Wissensraum ein Kontextmenü, das sie mit gleichartigen, über- oder untergeordneten anderen Objekten in Beziehung setzt. Weit über die bisher bekannten Möglichkeiten digitaler Nachschlagewerke hinaus geht nach Ansicht der Jury auch die Verknüpfung von Artikeln mit multimedialen Elementen. Die Aufgabe des Fraunhofer IPSI in diesem Projekt war es, eine Taxonomie der Lexikoneinträge zu erstellen, die die Wissensvernetzung ermöglicht. Die "Brockhaus Enzyklopädie digital" besteht aus einem USB-Stick, der alle Texte der 30-bändigen gedruckten Enzyklopädie und die notwendige Software mit allen Suchtechnologien enthält. Die Software auf dem USB-Stick ist unter MS Windows auch ohne vorangehende Installation nutzbar. Ergänzt wird das Werk durch ein OnlinePortal, welches die Inhalte weltweit betriebsunabhängig abrufbar macht. Auch 2005 war das Fraunhofer IPSI, damals mit seiner Technologie für digitale Wasserzeichen, an zwei Preisen des AKEP beteiligt."

    Das Projekt gewann erst an Konturen, als Le Breton drei weitere Pariser Verleger für das Geschäft interessieren konnte. Als Herausgeber engagierten die vier Verleger 1746 Abbé Jean-Paul Gua de Malves, als Übersetzter Denis Diderot (1713-1784) und Jean Le Rond D'Alembert (1717-1783), einen glänzenden Astronomen und Mathematiker. Bevor die Arbeiten anfingen, zerstritten sich die Verleger mit Gua de Malves. Nun sollten Diderot und D'Alembert Herausgeber und Übersetzer werden. Das scheiterte zunächst daran, dass Diderot am 22. Juli 1749 nach einem berüchtigten Geheimbefehl ("lettre de cachet") verhaftet und in Vincennes inhaftiert wurde. Man hielt ihn - zu Recht, aber unbeweisbar - für den Verfasser der 1745 in Amsterdam anonym gedruckten Philosophischen Gedanken und traute ihm auch die schlüpfrigen Geschichten unter dem Titel Die indiskreten Kleinode (1748) zu. Während der Haft intervenierten die Verleger beim Kanzler d'Aguesseau. Dieser wie auch der Justizminister d'Argenson sahen in der Encyclopédie der philosophes" ein Projekt zum Ruhme Frankreichs und zur Schande Englands". Nach 103 Tagen kam Diderot wieder frei. Teile des Hofes und der Klerus beobachteten das Unternehmen Encyclopédie von Anfang an mit Misstrauen. Die Jesuiten vom Journal de Trévoux entdeckten im ersten Band ein Defizit: Es fehlten die Namen von Königen, Gelehrten, Heiligen", während viele heidnische Gottheiten" vorkamen. Sie machten die philosophes" unter dem erfundenen Wort eacouacs" zum Gespött. Noch 1952 charakterisierte die katholische Zeitschrift Études die Encyclopédie als die fürchterlichste Maschine, die jemals gegen die Religion in Stellung gebracht" wurde. Nachdem Abbé Jean-Martin de Prades - Autor des Artikels Gewissheit - in seiner Dissertation die These vertreten hatte, die Heilungen durch Jesus Christus glichen methodisch jenen des griechischen Arztes Äskulap, brach ein Sturm der Entrüstung aus. De Prades musste fliehen. Klerikale Einflüsterungen erreichten, dass der Staatsrat am 7. Februar 1752 gegen die ersten beiden Bände der Encyclopédie eine "scharfe Missbilligung" aussprach. Das war ein faktisches Verkaufsverbot, aber keine Rücknahme des Druckprivilegs. Man konnte nicht nur weiterarbeiten, sondern die Regierung bat die Herausgeber direkt weiterzumachen auch zum Schutz der Eigentumstitel der Subskribenten. Allerdings sollten künftig drei theologisch gebildete Zensoren jeden Artikel abzeichnen. Eingefädelt hatte das alles, wie Arthur M. Wilson, der beste Diderot-Kenner, gezeigt hat, Chrétien Guillaume de Malesherbes. Malesherbes war der Chef des Buchwesens und der Zensurbehörde - zugleich Freund und Förder der Encyclopédie.

    "Man grübelt bisweilen ja darüber, was römische Legionäre an langen Samstagnachmittagen anstellten. Wenn alle Zelte aufgestellt, der Feind besiegt, das Kinn rasiert war. Fußballbundesliga würde uns spontan einfallen, aber das gab es ja damals noch nicht. Nun belegt der "Neue Pauly", die Enzyklopädie der Antike: Sie spielten doch Fußball, wie schon ihre griechischen Kollegen, die bereits im frühen vierten Jahrhundert vor Christus die Sportart Apopudobalia, eine Vorform "des neuzeitlichen Fußballspiels, erfanden. Natürlich gibt der seriöse Metzler Verlag in seiner Enzyklopädie auch die Quelle an: Schon in der Gymnastika des Achilleus Taktikos ist die Rede von fußballerischer Betätigung. Dass die Wiege der europäischen Kultur auch die Wiege des Spieles ist, in dem sich 22 schwitzende, dickwadige Freunde um einen Ball zanken, könnte Grund genug sein, die Fußball-WM 2006, in Arte auszustrahlen. Wenn, ja wenn der "Neue Pauly" nicht einfach nur einen Witz gemacht hätte. Apopudobalia und einen gewissen Achilleus Taktikos hat es nämlich nie gegeben. Die wissenschaftlichen Spaßvögel bei Metzler haben ein so genanntes U-Boot in ihre sonst durchaus Ernst zu nehmende Enzyklopädie eingebaut. Dabei handelt es sich um einen inhaltlich unsinnigen Beitrag, der formal vollkommen korrekt eingetragen wurde. Abkürzungen, Querverweise, Quellen- und Literaturangaben sitzen an richtiger Stelle. Solche U-Boote tauchen durchaus häufiger auf im streng wissenschaftlichen Milieu seriöser Nachschlagewerke, was beweist, dass auch Wissenschaftler manchmal zu Späßen aufgelegt sind. Das wohl bekannteste Beispiel ist die 1976 von dem Humoristen Loriot bei Forschungsarbeiten in einer Parodie über den Zoologen Bernhard Grzimek entdeckte Steinlaus (Petrophaga lorioti), die 1986 Eingang in das medizinische Lexikon Pschyrembel aus dem Berliner Fachverlag Walter de Gruyter fand. In Auflage 258-260 etwa vermuten die Schreiber des renommierten Lexikons, dass die Steinlaus, zur Ordnung der Fabelnager gehörend, zum Fall der Berliner Mauer beige-tragen haben könnte. Eine humorvolle Neuentdeckung kann auch das Nachschlagewerk "Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart" verzeichnen. Danach gibt es einen 21. Sohn von Johann Sebastian Bach, der auf den Namen "P.D.Q. Bach" gehört haben soll. Zwar habe ihm sein Vater kein Talent vererbt, aber durchaus ein gewisses Maß an Starrsinnigkeit. So schuf er Werke wie das "Schleptet in Es-Dur", deren CD-Einspielungen im guten Fachhandel erhältlich sein sollen. Unsinn schleicht sich aber auch in der Datenbank des Deutschen Bundestages ein. Demnach sitzt in der SPDFraktion ein gewisser Jakob Maria Mierscheid, ehemaliger Schneidermeister aus dem Hunsrück, zuständig für das Thema Aufzucht und Pflege der geringelten Haubentaube in Mitteleuropa und anderswo". Man sagt, erarbeite zusammen mit Friedrich Gottlob Nagelmann, einem fiktiven deutschen Verfassungsrichter, der laut Meyers Aktuellem Personenlexikon ;insbesondere für mystische Sachverhalte (u.a. Haushalt und Finanzen, Religion)" zuständig ist. Die Verlage äußern sich nicht gerne zu ihren U-Booten. Vermutlich fürchten sie um den guten Ruf ihrer Nachschlagewerke. Doch auch wenn der Fußball keine antiken Wurzeln hat: Der Gedanke an einen kickenden Platon will uns nicht aus dem Kopf. Dass die deutsche Nationalmannschaft den Fußball nicht erfunden haben kann, scheint evident zu sein. Außerdem wusste schon Sepp Herbergen Die annere kenne aach kicke."     Since the appearance of Diderot and D'Alembert's Encyclopedia in the 18th century, encyclopedias have undergone some modifications but until recently there have been no substantial alterations to the basic design established by the original authors. The emergence of massive data storage systems and sophisticated methods of information retrieval such as hypertext are bringing about considerable changes in the design of encyclopedias, especially as regards interactivity.
