    Abstract
    Der Beitrag verfolgt das Ziel einer praxisorientierten Bestandsaufnahme der aktuellen Situation auf dem Markt kostenpflichtiger E-Books aus der Perspektive wissenschaftlicher Bibliotheken. Ausgehend von den Erwartungen, die von Nutzer- und Bibliotheksseite an diese relativ neue Gattung elektronischer Medien gerichtet werden können, und dem den E-Books grundsätzlich unterstellten Potenzial wird der tatsächlich erreichte Stand näher beleuchtet. Untersucht werden dabei neben einer allgemeinen Markteinschätzung Aspekte wie gängige Zugriffsoptionen, Preis-und Geschäftsmodelle, Vertriebswege, Recherche- und Nutzungsmöglichkeiten oder auch Erschließungsfragen. Der Aufsatz mündet in einen exemplarischen Blick auf bisher gewonnene konkrete Erfahrungen mit E-Books an wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken sowie die Andeutung möglicher Entwicklungsperspektiven.

    Abstract
    Sie sind etwas größer als Organizer und Digitale Assistenten, Texte und Inhalte aller Art lassen sich via Internet auf die »elektronischen Bücher« laden. Trotz eines beachtlichen Angebots an Software, sprich: digitalisierter Literatur, ist dem E-Book der große Durchbruch bislang versagt geblieben. So lange wollte man in Duisburg sowieso nicht warten: In der Stadtbibliothek können E-Books bereits ausgeliehen werden.

    Abstract
    Vom 9. bis 10. Juni luden die Max Planck Gesellschaft (MPG) und FIZ Karlsruhe Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler aus verschiedenen Disziplinen zu den ersten eSciDoc Days nach Berlin ein. Im Vordergrund der Veranstaltung stand die Gründung einer offenen Community zur Nachnutzung und Weiterentwicklung von eSciDoc, einer innovativen Arbeitsumgebung für die digital gestützte Forschung (e-Research). Knapp 100 Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer aus 40 wissenschaftlichen Organisationen in Europa, USA und Japan folgten der Einladung.

    Abstract
    Am 27. November 2007 veranstalteten die Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (DNB) und der AKEP des Verlegerausschusses des Börsenvereins des Deutschen Buchhandels eine Informationsveranstaltung und einen sich daran anschließenden Expertenworkshop zum Thema Netzpublikationen. Zunächst stand die Vermittlung von Fakten, u. a. zu Ablieferungsverfahren, rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen und zur Pflichtablieferungsverordnung im Vordergrund. Im weiteren Verlauf des Tages wurde mit Fachleuten der Verlage, insbesondere aus dem Bereich Elektronisches Publizieren, über die Praxis innnerhalb der Verlage und die Auswirkungen der digitalen Pflichtexemplare diskutiert. Zu Veranstaltungsbeginn wurde bereits durch Matthias Ulmer (Ulmer Verlag, Verlegerausschuss im Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels) deutlich, dass sich die Verlage Klarheit hinsichtlich des Ablieferungsverfahrens der elektronischen Pflichtexemplare wünschen, um diese in ihre Pläne zu E-Books im Jahr 2008 einbeziehen zu können. Das Ziel des Workshops bestand im Wesentlichen darin, einen Konsens bezüglich der gemeinsam getragenen Absprachen zu erzielen, die später einem erweiterten Kreis zugänglich gemacht werden sollen. Dies ist ein anspruchsvolles Ziel!

    Abstract
    Surveys of the members of the American Astronomical Society identify how astronomers use journals and what features and formats they prefer. While every work field is distinct, the patterns of use by astronomers may provide a glimpse of what to expect of journal patterns and use by other scientists. Astronomers, like other scientists, continue to invest a large amount of their time in reading articles and place a high level of importance an journal articles. They use a wide variety of formats and means to get access to materials that are essential to their work in teaching, service, and research. They select access means that are convenient-whether those means be print, electronic, or both. The availability of a mature electronic journals system from their primary professional society has surely influenced their early adoption of e-journals.

    Abstract
    Die Rundschau gibt es jetzt auch als "E-Paper" im Internet. Was ist ein E-Paper? Es ist die übliche Bezeichnung für die elektronische Version einer Zeitung oder Zeitschrift im Internet, meist die Original-Darstellung ganzer Seiten. Als deutsche Bezeichnung könnte sich vielleicht "E-Zeitung" durchsetzen.

    "Schon seit Jahren ist die Rundschau mit ausgewählten tagesaktuellen Artikeln im Internet vertreten. Dieses Angebot ist jetzt komplettiert: Ab sofort steht Ihnen Ihre Zeitung vollständig im weltweiten Datennetz zur Verfügung. In der so genannten "E-Paper"-Aus-gabe findet sich die gesamte Rundschau-Ausgabe, Seite für Seite, ohne Ausnahme, von Montag bis Samstag. Nichts fehlt: Jeder Artikel, jedes Foto, jede Anzeige ist drin. Mittwochs ist unsere Reisebeilage dabei, samstags unsere Wochenendbeilage "SO.", die Motorseiten und natürlich auch der Auto- und Stellenmarkt. Für unsere Abonnenten ist dieser Service völlig kostenlos. Sie können sich auf unserer Homepage www.rundschau-online.de ganz einfach mit Ihrer Kundennummer anmelden. Das ist nur beim ersten Besuch nötig. Montags bis freitags steht die E-Paper-Ausgabe mit der abonnierten Lokalausgabe ab 6 Uhr im Netz, samstags ab 9 Uhr - und ist dann von jedem Internet-Zugang weltweit zu lesen, zum Beispiel im Urlaub. Und so geht's: Auf der Seite www.rundschau-online.de findet sich in der linken Leiste der Verweis "E-Paper" mit dem Bild einer gefalteten Rundschau. Ein Mausklick darauf führt auf die Anmelde-Seite. Dort muss man sich beim ersten Besuch registrieren. Abonnenten geben dort ihre Kundennummer (die findet sich auf Rechnungen) und persönliche Daten an und wählen einen Benutzernamen. Danach erscheint eine kleine Rundschau Titelseite. Auf die wird geklickt, und schon ist man drin. Wie liest man Artikel? Ganz leicht: Mit dem Mauszeiger kann man über die angezeigte Seite wandern. Artikel, Fotos und Inserate öffnen sich beim Anklicken in vergrößerter Form. Wie blättert man? So leicht wie im gedruckten Exemplar. Die Navigation ist denkbar einfach, auch für weniger erfah rene Internet-Nutzer. Der Bildschirm zeigt stets eine Seite an. Zur nächsten Seite führt ein Klick auf den Pfeil nach rechts". Klickt man auf den Pfeil "nach links", so geht es eine Seite zurück. Man kann auch mit einem Mausklick direkt in jedes Ressort springen. Dafür gibt es links auf dem Bildschirm ein Inhaltsverzeichnis.
    Gibt es eine Suchfunktion? Ja. Mit ihrer Hilfe lässt sich eine komfortable Volltext-Suche nach Namen oder einzelnen Schlagworten in der kompletten Ausgabe starten. Kann ich ältere Ausgaben einsehen? Ja: E-Paper-Leser können jederzeit auf ein SiebenTage-Archiv zugreifen, mit allen Funktionen, Suchfunktion inklusive. Ist das Herunterladen von ganzen Ausgaben als PDF-Datei, möglich? Nein. Zwar können alle Seiten im PDF-Format aufgerufen und angesehen werden (über eine kleine Schaltfläche links oberhalb' der Seite). Ein PDF-Download ist aber nicht möglich. Muss ich meinen Computer aufrüsten? Normalerweise nicht. Zum Anzeigen `und Ausdrucken der Seiten im PDF-Format ist der Acrobat Reader 6 nötig- der kann kostenfrei aus dem Internet geladen werden (www.adobe.de). Browser: Für Windows Internet Explorer ab Version 6.0, Netscape ab Version 7.1, Mozilla ab Version 1.7.5, Opera ab Version 7:5. Für Mac Netscape Communicator ab Version 6.2, Safari ab Version 1.2.4. Auf der E-Paper-Startseite gibt es einen Browsertest - einfach draufklicken; der Test wird dann automatisch durchgeführt: PopUps müssen erlaubt sein. Empfohlene Internet-Verbindung zum Lesen des E-Paper: 64 KB (ISDN) öder höher. Preise: Rundschau-Abonnenten zahlen für die E-PaperAusgabe mit ihrem Lokalteil nichts. Eine andere Lokalausgabe zusätzlich kostet monatlich 6,50 Euro (Studenten: 4,50 Euro). E-Paper-Abo alleine: monatlich '13,50 Euro (Studenten: 9,50 Euro)."
