Abstract

Strategische Studien bei technologisch führenden US-Bibliotheken haben gezeigt, daß die zwischenbetriebliche Integration zwischen Buchhandel und Bibliotheken ein Automatisierungsvorhaben der 90er Jahre sein könnte, das in der Lage wäre, hohe betrieblich Nutzeffekte und Srategiebeiträge zu den kritischen Erfolgsfaktoren der Bibliotheken zu liefern. Dazu wird hier exemplarisch eine strategische Entscheidungsunterstützung zur Automation der Wertschöpfungskette, der zwischenbetrieblichen Integration zwischen Bibliotheken und den Vorlieferanten und damit der zwangsläufige Einstieg in die ISO/OSI geprägte 'offene Kommunikation' zwischen heterogenen Systemen vorgestellt

Im klassischen Buchhandel tut sich etwas. Immer öfter finden die Käufer CD-ROMs statt gedruckter Werke in den Regalen. Der Einzug der Datenbanken ist der Branche nur recht. Abstract

Das elektronische Medium hat in weiten Bereichen der Informationslandschaft Einzug gehalten und verbreitet sich so rapide, daß bereits von einer zweiten Gutenberg'schen Revolution, einer elektronischen Revolution die Rede ist. Autoren, Verlage, Buchhandel und Agenturen, Bibliotheken und Leser bedienen sich dieses Mediums in steigendem Maße, und die Idee Ted Nelsons von 'Xanadu', einer weltweiten Vernetzung von Hypermedia-Systemen, befindet sich im Stadium der Verwirklichung. Abstract

Das OSI-Schichtenmodell beschreibt für die Rechner-Rechner-Kopplung und die Programm-Programm-Kopplung Dienste wie elektronische Post/Mailboxen, Fernleihe ILL oder Datenbanksuche und legt die prozeduralen Schnittstellen in Protokollen und Nachrichten fest. Die elektronisch transportierten Inhalte (EDI) werden für die Weiterverarbeitung nach internationalen Datenformaten wie EDIFACT (Buchhandel), UNIMARC, CCF (bilbiographisch), ODA/ODIF und SGML (Layout) strukturiert. Für klkeine Bibliotheken ist es schon jetzt erschwinglich, Briefe, Faxe und bibliographische Daten mit der Mailbox der Bundespost oder im DFN nach X.400-Standard zu versenden. Sie können mit dem PC geschrieben, gelesen, bearbeitet, weitergeleitet und automatisch verteilt werden. Mit OSI-Schnittstellen könnenn nicht nur entfernt gelegene Bibliotheksrechner miteinander gekoppelt werden, sondern auch die Verbindung verschiedener Bibliotheksprogramme innerhalb eines Hauses wird möglich
