Abstract

Von verschiedenen wissenschaftspolitischen Expertengremien sind in den letzten Jahren Analysen und Entwicklungsvorschläge zur Situation der wissenschaftlichen Informationsinfrastrukturen in Deutschland vorgelegt worden. Der Wissenschaftsrat thematisierte 2012 mit seinen jüngsten "Empfehlungen zur Weiterentwicklung der wissenschaftlichen Informationsinfrastrukturen in Deutschland bis 2020" vor allem Fragen der strukturellen Organisation und Koordination von Einrichtungen aus dem Bereich der Informationsinfrastrukturen. Inwieweit die Empfehlungen des Wissenschaftsrats dabei auf Belange des wissenschaftlichen Bibliothekswesens eingehen, soll im vorliegenden Beitrag betrachtet werden. Dazu werden die Empfehlungen des Wissenschaftsrats zunächst in den bibliothekspolitischen Kontext eingeordnet (Abschnitt 1.1 und 1.3) und in ihren relevanten Aspekten vorgestellt (Abschnitt 1.2). In einer kritischen Analyse werden daraufhin wesentliche Punkte des Papiers diskutiert (Abschnitt 2), die im Hinblick auf ihre Auswirkungen auf das wissenschaftliche Bibliothekswesen in Deutschland bewertet (Abschnitt 3) werden. Als tendenziell problematisch erweisen sich dabei u. a. die Aussagen des Wissenschaftsrat zum Thema Open Access sowie zu den Finanzierungsmodalitäten künftiger Informationsinfrastrukturen und ihrer vorgeschlagenen zentralen Steuerung.

Abstract

Seit etwa Mitte der 1990er Jahre entstanden an verschiedenen Orten neue Bibliothekskonzepte, die unter den Bezeichnungen "Idea Store", "Médiathèque" und "Learning Center" weltweit Aufmerksamkeit erregten. Alle drei Konzepte setzen auf eine verstärkte Interaktion zwischen Bibliothek und ihren Nutzerinnen sowie Nutzern, eine oftmals mit spektakulären Neubauten einhergehende Aufwertung der Bibliothek als Ort, überinstitutionelle Kooperationen und eine radikale Zielgruppenorientierung. Ihre Anregungen wurden in mehreren Ländern mehr oder weniger explizit aufgegriffen und prägen die aktuelle bibliothekarische Diskussion über die Zukunft der Bibliotheken mit. Im vorliegenden Artikel werden die drei Konzepte "Idea Store", "Médiathèque" und "Learning Center" in ihren Grundlinien vorgestellt und in den jeweiligen Entstehungskontext eingebettet. Darüber hinaus werden sie miteinander verglichen, Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede zwischen ihnen herausgearbeitet sowie ein Fazit über die Potentiale und Beschränkungen der Konzepte gezogen. Dadurch geraten auch die Anregungen dieser Konzepte in den Blick, die für das deutsche Bibliothekswesen fruchtbar sind.

Abstract

Ein im April erschienener F.A.Z.-Artikel, »Abendländisches Schisma«, zu Tendenzen der Informationsversorgung, auch mit Blick auf die Arbeit von Bibliotheken, erregte seinerzeit die Gemüter und führte, sowohl in den Leserbriefspalten der F.A.Z. wie in den bibliothekarischen Listen, zu teilweise heftigen Reaktionen vor allem im Bibliothekswesen. In diesem und im folgenden Heft stellt der Autor seine Thesen und Begründungszusammenhänge zur Diskussion.
