    Abstract
    Der Begriff Informationskompetenz definiert Techniken und Methoden der Recherche, Beurteilung und Nutzung von Informationen und gilt in der modernen Informa­tionsgesellschaft als Schlüsselkompetenz. Die deutsche Übersetzung des aus dem angloamerikanischen Raum stammenden "Information Literacy" hat sich in den vergangenen Jahren auch in Deutschland etabliert. Auf Basis einer exemplarischen Untersuchung wird der Stand der Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz an Bibliotheken in vier deutschen Millionenstädten beschrieben. Für die Untersuchung wurden nach vorangegangenen Online-Recherchen Kriterien festgelegt, nach denen die Auswahl der untersuchten Bibliotheken erfolgte. Die Untersuchung erfolgte mit einem Fragebogen, dessen Fragen die Bereiche "Allgemein", "Personal", "Bildungsan­gebot" und "Methodik" hinsichtlich der Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz durch Bibliotheken abdecken. Die Sondierung erfolgte im September und Oktober 2014 durch die schriftliche Beantwortung der Fragebögen durch die zuständigen Bibliothekare. Die Ergebnisse dieser exemplarischen Befragung offenbaren, dass Informationskompetenz an allen fünf untersuchten Bibliotheken aktiv in Form von Schulungen bzw. Kursen vermittelt wird und dabei unterschiedliche Schwerpunkte gesetzt werden. Auffällige Gemeinsamkeit der Befragung sind die fehlende einheitliche Definition von Informationskompetenz und das Fehlen von Standards zur Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz.

    Abstract
    Wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken dienen als Speicher der Erkenntnisse von Wissenschaft und Forschung. Somit war und ist Bibliothek stets Multiplikator für die wissenschaftlichen Erträge und stellt gleichzeitig die wissenschaftlichen Ergebnisse einer breiten Allgemeinheit vor und zur Verfügung. Die Bibliothek ist damit Transformator reiner Wissenschaft in allgemein verständliche Information. Sie gibt einen geeigneten Rahmen ab für den Wissenstransfer aus der Spezialdisziplin in die Öffentlichkeit. Die Bibliothek war und ist aber stets auch Schnittstelle der Wissenschaft zum Wissenschaftler. Sie ist ein Ort der Inter- und Transdisziplinarität und damit Innovations- und Intuitionsfaktor für Wissenschaft und Forschung. Die Bibliothek spielt in der Wertschöpfungskette der Wissenschaft eine wichtige und zentrale Rolle durch ihre sekundäre Wertschöpfungsaktivität. Sie muss hierzu ihre Supporting-Aufgabe für Wissenschaft und Forschung annehmen und ernst nehmen. In der veränderten Medienwelt darf sie sich nicht zum ideologischen Fürsprecher eines einzigen Informationsmediums machen lassen, sondern muss die Wissenschaft und die verschiedensten Formen des wissenschaftlichen Publizierens in ihrer Vielgestaltigkeit annehmen und eine eben solche vielfältige, multimediale Informationsunterstützung gewährleisten. Die Konzentration auf ein einziges Leitmedium ist weder von der Wissenschaft gewünscht noch zielführend für eine optimale Literaturversorgung. Diese Vielfalt zu organisieren und so zu strukturieren, dass der Wissenschaftler nicht zum Informationsanalphabeten wird und im Information Overload versinkt, ist die vornehmste Aufgabe wissenschaftlicher Bibliotheken.
