    Die DNB-CD retro 2 enthält alle in Deutschland erschienenen Publikationen der Bibliographienjahrgänge 1972 bis 1985 (ca. 1,2 Millionen Datensätze). Es handelt sich um Monographien, Zeitschriften, Karten und Hochschulschriften, die als Beleg- oder Pflichtexemplare bei der Deutschen Bibliothek Frankfurt am Main eingegangen sind. Nicht enthalten sind Germanica und Übersetzungen deutschsprachiger Werke. Als Suchkategorien stehen u.a. Autor, Stichwort, Titel oder Reihe zur Verfügung, die miteinander verknüpft werden können.     Stattdessen werden ab dem Jahr 2010 neben der allgemein zugänglichen Datenbank https://portal.d-nb.de, mit der die Deutsche Nationalbibliothek die Erstverzeichnung und damit ihren gesetzlichen Auftrag erfüllt, neue - an die verschiedenen Kundenwünsche angepasste - elektronische Angebote Druckverzeichnisse und CD-ROM ablösen. In Anlehnung an die bisherigen gedruckten Ausgaben wird die Deutsche Nationalbibliothek die Nationalbibliografie als Online-Zeitschrift im PDF-Format kostenfrei über ihre Datenbank anbieten. Zusätzlich können die PDF-Dateien auf Wunsch auch kostenpflichtig auf dem WWW- bzw. FTP-Server der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek zum Abholen bereitgestellt werden. Die Gliederung in die Reihen A, B, C, H, M und T und den Neuerscheinungsdienst bleibt dabei unverändert, ebenso wird der Erscheinungsrhythmus beibehalten.     Die bibliografische Erfassung in den elektronischen Katalogen wird zwar immer mehr ausgeweitet und ergänzt mit biografischen Daten zu den am Werk beteiligten Personen, mit Inhaltsverzeichnissen, Inhaltsangaben, Rezensionen, Verlagsmeldungen. Alles scheint verzeichnet, aufbereitet, ständig zur allgemeinen Verfügung zu stehen. Wir können unsere Recherchen abspeichern, ausdrucken, verändern, immer wieder darauf zugreifen. Durch Recherchegewohnheiten, die sich aus dem Umgang mit dem Internet herausgebildet haben, steigen die Ansprüche und Erwartungen der Nutzer/-innen enorm - diese zufrieden zu stellen, u.a. auch unter Einbeziehung der Nutzer/-innen selbst, scheint das Gebot der Stunde. Aber reichen die Angebote der elektronischen Bibliothekskataloge und die Möglichkeiten bibliotheksübergreifender Abfragen für eine wissenschaftlich fundierte Suchstrategie aus?"
