- Abstract
- Mit dieser Publikation veröffentlicht das Institut für Museumskunde die bisherigen Arbeitsergebnisse der Arbeitsgruppe "Datenaustausch" in der Fachgruppe Dokumentation des Deutschen Museumsbunds (DMB). Kolleginnen und Kollegen verschiedener Interessenschwerpunkte aus Museen und Informatik-Einrichtungen haben seit dem Jahre 2000 die Entwicklung des CIDOC-CRM (das "Conceptual Reference Model" des Dokumentationskomitees von ICOM, dem Internationalen Museumsrat) zu einem Arbeitsinstrument begleitet, das derzeit auf dem Wege ist, als Norm ISO 21 127 Anerkennung zu finden. Die Arbeitsgruppe hat sich intensiv damit beschäftigt, zunächst das komplexe Modell zu verstehen, und sie hat diskutiert, inwieweit es eine Hilfestellung für die Arbeit von Museen miteinander und für einen Datenaustausch zwischen ihnen bietet. Die Ergebnisse der Überlegungen werden hier vorgestellt in der Hoffnung, dass dadurch viele Kolleginnen und Kollegen mit dem Modell bekannt werden, ihnen das Verständnis des CRM erleichtert wird und das Modell auch in Deutschland für die Konzeption von Informationssystemen und die Vermittlung zwischen unterschiedlichen Dokumentationen genutzt werden kann.

- Sponsored by the German Ministry of Education and Research with funding of 800.000 EURO, the German Network of Expertise in long-term storage of digital resources (nestor) began in June 2003 as a cooperative effort of 6 partners representing different players within the field of long-term preservation. The partners include: * The German National Library (Die Deutsche Bibliothek) as the lead institution for the project * The State and University Library of Lower Saxony Göttingen (Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen) * The Computer and Media Service and the University Library of Humboldt-University Berlin (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) * The Bavarian State Library in Munich (Bayerische Staatsbibliothek) * The Institute for Museum Information in Berlin (Institut für Museumskunde) * General Directorate of the Bavarian State Archives (GDAB) As in other countries, long-term preservation of digital resources has become an important issue in Germany in recent years. Nevertheless, coming to agreement with institutions throughout the country to cooperate on tasks for a long-term preservation effort has taken a great deal of effort. Although there had been considerable attention paid to the preservation of physical media like CD-ROMS, technologies available for the long-term preservation of digital publications like e-books, digital dissertations, websites, etc., are still lacking. Considering the importance of the task within the federal structure of Germany, with the responsibility of each federal state for its science and culture activities, it is obvious that the approach to a successful solution of these issues in Germany must be a cooperative approach. Since 2000, there have been discussions about strategies and techniques for long-term archiving of digital information, particularly within the distributed structure of Germany's library and archival institutions. A key part of all the previous activities was focusing on using existing standards and analyzing the context in which those standards would be applied. One such activity, the Digital Library Forum Planning Project, was done on behalf of the German Ministry of Education and Research in 2002, where the vision of a digital library in 2010 that can meet the changing and increasing needs of users was developed and described in detail, including the infrastructure required and how the digital library would work technically, what it would contain and how it would be organized. The outcome was a strategic plan for certain selected specialist areas, where, amongst other topics, a future call for action for long-term preservation was defined, described and explained against the background of practical experience.

- Abstract
- Die Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz wird künftig zu den Kernaufgaben der Bibliotheken gehören müssen. Dies ist auch eines der Hauptarbeitsfelder des Rezensenten, der aus eigener Praxis sieht, welche Schwierigkeiten sich hierbei finden: Viele Klienten erkennen ihren eigenen Informationsbedarf nicht, können ein fachliches nicht von einem informatorischen Problem trennen, sind nicht in der Lage, für ihr spezifisches Problem potenzielle Informationsquellen zu finden und haben vor allem Probleme, die Verbindung zwischen elektronischer und gedruckter WeIt zu schaffen, die somit praktisch unverbunden nebeneinander existieren (vgl. Rainer Strzolka: Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz als Informationsdienstleistung? Vortrag, FH Köln, Fakultät für Informations- und Kommunikationswissenschaften, Institut für Informationswissenschaft, am 31. Oktober 2003). Der Brückenschlag zwischen diesen beiden Welten gehört zu den Aufgaben professioneller Informationsvermittler, die nicht nur in der Digitalwelt firm sein müssen, aber auch dort. Nicht zuletzt müssen die gefundenen Informationen ergebnisorientiert genutzt und kritisch bewertet werden und die gefundenen Antworten zur Problemlösung eingesetzt werden. Die Informationslandschaft ist mit ihren verschiedenen Wissensmarktplätzen und Informationsräumen inzwischen so komplex geworden, dass eine kleine Handreichung dazu geeignet erscheint, vor allem die eigene Position des Informationsvermittlers zu überdenken. Zudem ist die aktive Informationsvermittlung noch ein dürres Feld in Deutschland. Die vorliegende kleine Erfahrungsstudie schickt sich an, dies zu ändern. Der Ansatz geht davon aus, dass jeder Vermittler von Medienkompetenz Lehrer wie Lernender zugleich ist; die Anlage ist wie bei allen BibSpider-Publikationen international ausgerichtet. Der Band ist komplett zweisprachig und versammelt Erfahrungsberichte aus der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, den USA und Südafrika, die eher als Ansatz zur Bewusstseinsbildung denn als Arbeitsanleitung gedacht sind. Eingeleitet wird der Band von einer terminologischen Herleitung des Begriffs aus dem Angelsächsischen und den verschiedenen Bedeutungsebenen, die durch unterschiedliche Bildungs- und Informationskulturen bedingt sind. Angerissen werden verschiedene Arbeitsgebiete und -erfahrungen.

- Abstract
- Die ständig steigende Zahl an publizierter Information in immer neuen Formen verlangt besonders von Informations- und Dokumentationseinrichtungen immer präzisere Lösungen zur Erschließung dieser Informationen und ihrer benutzerfreundlichen Aufbereitung. Besonders im derzeitigen Zeitalter der Datenbanken und Online-Kataloge ist die Kombination von verbaler und klassifikatorischer Sacherschließung gefordert, ohne dabei die Verbindung zu den älteren, vielerorts noch (zumindest zusätzlich) in Verwendung befindlichen, Zettelkatalogen zu verlieren. Weltweit ist eine Vielzahl an verschiedenen Klassifikationen im Einsatz. Die Wahl der für eine Einrichtung passenden Klassifikation ist abhängig von ihrer thematischen und informationellen Ausrichtung, der Größe und Art der Bestände und nicht zuletzt von technischen und personellen Voraussetzungen. Auf Seiten der zu wählenden Klassifikation sind die Einfachheit der Handhabung für den Bibliothekar, die Verständlichkeit für den Benutzer, die Erweiterungsfähigkeit der Klassifikation durch das Aufkommen neuer Wissensgebiete und die Einbindung in informationelle Netze mit anderen Einrichtungen von entscheidender Bedeutung. In dieser Arbeit soll die Dewey Dezimalklassifikation (DDC) hinsichtlich dieser Punkte näher beleuchtet werden. Sie ist die weltweit am häufigsten benutzte Klassifikation. Etwa 200.000 Bibliotheken in 135 Ländern erschließen ihre Bestände mit diesem System. Sie liegt derzeit bereits in der 22. ungekürzten Auflage vor und wurde bisher in 30 Sprachen übersetzt. Eine deutsche Komplettübersetzung wird im Jahre 2005 erscheinen. Trotz teils heftig geführter Standardisierungsdebatten und Plänen für die Übernahme von amerikanischen Formalerschließungsregeln herrscht in Bezug auf die Sacherschließung unter deutschen Bibliotheken wenig Einigkeit. Die DDC ist in Deutschland und anderen europäischen Ländern kaum verbreitet, sieht von Großbritannien und von der Verwendung in Bibliografien ab. Diese Arbeit geht demzufolge auf die historischen Gründe dieser Entwicklung ein und wagt einen kurzen Ausblick in die Zukunft der Dezimalklassifikation.

- Abstract
- Nach der Veröffentlichung einer deutschen Übersetzung der Dewey Decimal Classification 22 im Oktober 2005 und ihrer Nutzung zur Inhaltserschließung in der Deutschen Nationalbibliographie seit Januar 2006 stellt sich aus Sicht der deutschen kunsthistorischen Spezialbibliotheken die Frage nach einer möglichen Verwendung der DDC und ihrer generellen Eignung zur Inhalterschließung kunsthistorischer Publikationen. Diese Frage wird vor dem Hintergrund der bestehenden bibliothekarischen Strukturen für die Kunstgeschichte sowie mit Blick auf die inhaltlichen Besonderheiten, die Forschungsmethodik und die publizistischen Traditionen dieses Faches erörtert.

- Abstract
- Im Rahmen eines Projektseminars am Institut für Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft der Humboldt Universität zu Berlin wurden an wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken Benutzerbefragungen durchgeführt. Wir haben die Antworten auf eine Frage zum Informationsverhalten bibliotheksübergreifend statistisch ausgewertet. Neben Unterschieden zwischen Fächern stellen wir fest, dass sich das Informationsverhalten junger Bibliotheksnutzer oft erheblich von dem älterer Nutzer unterscheidet. Das Verhalten von Bibliotheksnutzern hinsichtlich der Häufigkeit der Nutzung von Bibliotheksangeboten und dem World Wide Web (WWW) ist vorwiegend ähnlich. Nutzer mit konträrem Verhalten sind unterrepräsentiert gegenüber denen, die beides, Bibliothek und Web, oft oder beides wenig nutzen.
