    Abstract
Interorganizational knowledge creation has become a crucial factor for successful management of corporations in the environment surrounding them today. Collaboration with other organizations is indispensable for a corporation to resolve complex and Jong range issues such as customer satisfaction and sustainable development. One of the most fundamental obstacles in creating knowledge among organizations is partial or incomplete communication due to incommensurable point of view. Policy exercises can improve commensurability and facilitate inter-organizational knowledge creation by providing a shared model of the system under investigation. This paper will discuss it taking Intelligent Transportation System (TTS) Deployment Exercises as an example.

    Abstract
Three different interfaces for online public access catalogues were evaluated using transaction logging as a methodology. In two cases exercises were set and run against each interface so that results could be critically evaluated to indicate areas of weakness. In all cases a random transaction log was derived and this was used to diagnose system problems and identify patterns of behaviour. Results showed that searches were often difficult to categorise, users employing different approaches to the same end. Users also were prepared to undertake sustained searching until something was retrieved; however they then frequently stopped. Search input problems are also identified and possible areas for further research suggested

    Abstract
Languages of Central Asia present unique problems in cataloging. Reference works are often scarce, unobtainable, or nonexistent, &pecially for Tibetan and Mongolian materials. Single-cutter numbers for languages result in shelflisting problems in some Central Asian languages. LC subject headings for Central Asian materials are generally adequate except for Tibetan. The breakup of the Soviet Union may result in literatures of the former republics, etc., adopting new scripts. Included is an appendix of some sources for literary works and authors in Central Asian languages.

    Abstract
For courses in Expert Systems, Knowledge-Based Systems, Artificial Intelligence or Decision Support Systems, this book embodies the fact that expert systems now extend beyond the field of computer science into such areas as engineering and business. It offers a comprehensive understanding of expert systems and shows their application to real world problems. The material is presented in such a way that the student needs no previous experience in computers or computer programming. The book addresses all of the topics necessary to understand, build, validate, and implement expert systems - with many examples, exercises, and problems. A working version of EXSYS - a microcomputer-based expert systems software program - is packaged with the text.

    Abstract
Reports results of a bibliometric study of the literature of Qigong: a relaxation technique used to teach patients to control their heart rate, blood pressure, temperature and other involuntary functions through controlles breathing. All articles indexed in the MEDLINE CD-ROM database, between 1965 and 1995 were identified using 'breathing exercises' MeSH term. The articles were analyzed for geographical and language distribution and a ranking exercise enabled a core list of periodicals to be identified. In addition, the study shed light on the changing frequency of the MeSH terms and evaluated the research areas by measuring the information from these respective MeSH headings

    Abstract
Discusses the need for facilities for online vocabulary control and standardization of terms, codes, etc., so as to secure consistency in naming of subjects, objects, countries, languages, etc., in databases at data entry stage. Most information storage and retrieval packages for microcomputers including MicroIsis provide for online vocabulary control in formulating search expressions for information retrieval, but not at the data entry stage. VOCON.PAS is a Pascal interface program for use with MicroIsis software for (a) online selection of term(s) and/or code(s) from vocabulary control tool, such as, thesaurus, subject heading list, classification scheme, nomenclature list(s)

    Abstract
An automated keywording system has been designed ro artifically behave as a human "expert" indexer. The system was designed to keyword 100 to 800 word documents representing lessons learned from military exercises and operations. A set of 74 documents can be keyworded on an IBM PS/2 model 80 in about five minutes. This paper presents a variety of ways for statistical documenting improvements in the development of an automated keywording system over time. It is not only beneficial to have some measure of system performance for a given time, but it is also useful as attemps are made to improve a system to assess if actual statistically significant improvements have been made. Furthermore, it is useful to identify the source of any existing problems so that they can be rectified. The specifics of the automated system that was evaluated are described, and the performance measures used are discussed.
