    Abstract
Argues that current discussion on management of and training in networking is technocratic in nature and that it is the duty of public policy to foster personality development and present individuals with new intellectual challenges. Suggests that libraries are nodes in a communal network fulfilling the task of pathfinder, providing information, transferring knowledge, fostering cultural heritage and providing areas for communications and social integration

    Abstract
Outlines why alternative press books fail to be recognised and failed to be included in traditional collection development aids or methods. Explains why they should be taken seriously. Introduces 44 titles from 26 presses, which are worthwhile reference works. The bibliography is arranged by press name with complete contact information

    Abstract
Selecting electronic resources requires both a policy statement to guide collection development and management and procedures to manage the process of selecting and handling these resources. Both policy and procedures must be crafted in response to local priorities, resources, limitations, and organizational structure. This paper examines issues that should be addressed when developing local procedures. Particular emphasis is given to preparing a mechanism to guide selection between various media and modes of information delivery-is explored.

    Abstract
Are organizations interested in realizing the potential of their personnel? How far have they progressed in utilizing performance assessment instruments for developmental purposes? There is a growing need for redirecting organizations toward greater knowledge productivity, and using personnel's competencies in a knowledge productive way. Development centers haue the potential of analyzing and diagnosing relevant competencies of personnel while at the same time providing a match wich further development. It was studied, within a representative set of large Dutch organizations, already familiar with the concept of assessment centers, to what degree management conceptions and actual implementation conditions are present for the introduction of development centers. The advantages of development centers as a knowledgeproductive tool for assessment in organizations are elaborated.

    Abstract
Terminology is essential for professional discourse, and therefore for professional communication. Without such communication there is no transfer of knowledge, and hence training and development become impossible. The question therefore is how to develop terminology. In Scandinavian countries terminology planning is a well established concept within the context of linguistic planning and national linguistic policy. In other countries the concept is hardly known, with the exception of standardization. The Scandinavian NORDTERM network, established in 1976, offers a proven model for encouraging regional terminological development

    Abstract
Discusses the origins of the MARC format and its development connected with the proceedings of the Library of Congress and the British Library. Presents 2 standards: ISO 2709 and ISBD. Focuses on national and international formats elaborated in the 1970s and 1980s, including UNIMARC (1975) and CCF (1984). Outlines the prospects and directions of MARC format development, that is, integration of the format and implementing MARC in the network environment

    Abstract
Points to weaknesses of conceptual modelling languages that are oriented towards certain aspects of the problem domain of information systems development. Modelling languages are needed that allow modellers to: freely choose to represent a wide and extensible range of aspects of problem domain phenomena continguent on the problems at hand; simultaneously co-represent several aspects of the same problem domain phenomenon whenever needed; reflect semantical relations between these aspects in the problem domain models; and extend the set of kinds of aspects that can be represented and visualised throughout problem analysis as understanding of the problem domain and the problems at hand increases. Outlines an approach called facet modelling of real-world problem domains to deal with the complexity of contemporary analysis problems. Defines and visualizes facet models, discusses facet modelling in relation to other recent ideas and techniques in the information system development field. Case studies are currently in progress to evaluate various implications of the facet modelling approach empirically
