    Abstract
    In diesem Papier soll die Rolle des FIZ Karlsruhe auf dem Gebiet des elektronischen Publizierens dartgestellt werden. Die Produktion von wissenschaftlich-technischen Datenbanken wird weitergeführt und der Online-Service STN International soll weiter ausgebaut werden. In Ergänzung hierzu werden Kooperationen mit Bibliotheken und Verlagen vereinbart, um eine umfassende Volltextversorgung für Literatur und Patente sicherzustellen. Zusätzlich wird ein Konzept für einen Electronic Information and Publishing Service erarbeitet, das folgende Komponenten umfaßt: (i) eine Volltextarchivierung der Originalmanuskripte in unveränderlicher Form, (ii) ein Online-Angebot der Volltexte und (iii) einen Editorial-Service zur Unterstützung der Verlage beim elektronischen Publizieren

    Abstract
    The telecommunications service is a scientific tool which libraries should use to save time in supplying information. Information can be read, retrieved, copied or discussed immediately with the help of electronic publishing. The service has great social potential. International cooperation is important yet national identity must be maintained and access to information guaranteed. If librarians regard electronic publishing simply as a technology, the readers will not accept it and the system will become ineffectual. More research is needed on copyright law problems. Electronic publishing improves data bank access and should overcome inequalities between regions and sections of the population.

    Abstract
    The Zeitschriftendienst (ZD), a topical periodical analysis service, began publication in 1965 and now covers 200 periodicals. The Deutsche Bibliotheksinstitut has used electronic data processing for publishing since 1974. The editorial board processes and coordinates all incoming periodicals analysis. A committee advises on cataloguing problems, selects new entries and old material for discarding. In 1990 it was decided to use the Schlagwortnormdatei, a standardised subject heading system used in many libraries...The service is available in printed form on microfiche and disc. It may be possible to store ZD in in-house systems.
