    Abstract
In an attempt to improve access to music materials, a project to create a preliminary music thesaurus - a tool by which terms and their relationships can be displayed, analyzed and evaluated - was initiated. Music headings from LCSH were converted to the data format for Anderson Rowley Information Aystems (ARIS) thesaurus construction software. Describes thesaurus display options. ARIS provides significant enhancements for searching terms, tracking relationships among headings, and gaining an overview of music vocabulary in LCSH

    Abstract
Describes the background and theoretical considerations relating to the music thesaurus, a project that is currently underway in the USA with the support of the Music Subject group at the Library of Congress. Discusses 5 characteristics which together sum up what the music thesaurus is or aspires to be: standard vocabulary; hierarchical arrangement; faceted terms; rich lead-in vocabulary; and complete syndetic structure
