    Abstract
Information should be added to the 6 management functions enunciated by Henri Fayol in 1916. Considers some problems of information: the awareness problem; government neglect of the information function; inadequate indexing; poor administration in libraries and information overload. Discusses the potential of information technology and pays attention to the difficulties experienced by devloping countries

    Abstract
Reviews the cumulative index to LISA, the leading English language abstracting journal on librarianship and information science and maintains that the index is a vital reference tool for those who do not have access to an on-line search service. Dascribes the index which is arranged in sequences of name and subject. Maintains that the introduction could be longer as the name index in particular requires more explanation, and illustrates by means of axamples. Lists strengths and weaknesses of the name index. Asserts that the subject index will receive greater use and warrants some explanation which is not provided. Suggests that the value of chain indexing is negated by divorce from classification. Affirms the enormous value of the work as an indispensable reference tool

    Abstract
Originally published in 1979 as a title in the Outlines of Modern Librarianship' series this new edition has been expanded and updated in the light of recent developments in this rapidly developing field of librarianship, with particular reference to automation. As a consequence, this edition is substantially more than an outline of the subject. The authors take the reader through a comprehensive exposition of cataloguing - the definitions, arrangement and role of the catalogue: the history of its development; standardization and AACR2; the subject approach via pre-and post-coordinate indexing; analysis; filing rules and methods; the physical forms of the catalogue; the use of the computer in cataloguing; the role of networks; the management of cataloguing; and the relevance of book indexing. There is a detailed index, as well as a list of abbreviations and acronyms and a glossary of terms.

    Abstract
The background to the Liverpool Polytechnique study of indexer reaction to the PRECIS indexing system and the methodology of the study are described. Some of the findings are discussed, special attention being given to points which some indexers regarded as advantages and other as disadvantages; the alleged labour-intensiveness of PRECIS; the British Library and PRECIS; and the impact of PRECIS on the British library community. A thesaurus of terms used in the British Library PRECIS indexes is needed, and some consideration should be given to the possible simplifications of PRECIS or modification to suit the needs of different users. Feedback from users of PRECIS indexes is required
