    Abstract
Library science may well have an essential role to play in efficiently organising the huge amount of Internet information available in the various scientific disciplines. The basic problem is to develop a cataloguing theory sufficiently flexible to cope with the impact of an ever changing store of network data. Such a theory would abondon the utopian idea of a 'catalogue of ctalogues', seeking instead to match each specific user query to the most appropriate catalogue. Examines 2 important USA projects for cataloguing network resources: Digital Libraries Research (funded by the National Science Foundation), which uses a combination of search engines to retrieve net data; and the Internet Public Library. Lists the Management and Library Schools now on the WWW

    Abstract
The head of electronic engineering at Florence's Universita degli Studi describes how the department has used digitized imaging and computer reconstructions to aid the restoration and preservation of works of art in museums such as the Uffizi. The dapertmant shares in the MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) Toscana Telecoms project, whose applications include remote access to libraries and museums; and it also takes part in the EU MUSA project, which developed the Vasari (Visual Arts Systems Archiving Retrieval Images) scanner, and in the RAMA (Remote Access to Museum Archives) scheme

    Abstract
Examines the structure and functions of the Bavarian regional electronic network, the Bibliotheksverbund Bayern (BVB), linking more than 60 academic and sceintific libraries. Utilising the Sokrates automation program, the system promotes close cooperation in technical and management matters, especially in relation to acquisitions, cataloguing, data retrieval and loans. BVB projects include the following: reconversion and digitization of printed catalogues, starting with the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek; automation of remote lending operations (within the national DBV-OSI scheme); the Elektra document order and supply service; and an electronic full-text document project

    Abstract
Looks at how new information search and retrieval technology is creating the so-called desktop library. Current full text retrieval (FTR) systems have extended search operations to the whole content of an electronic document. Research can be not simply Boolean but also by natural language processing (NLP). A matter of concern to librarians is the ability of the latest FTR search angines to construct automatic indexes. In the field of network information discovery and retrieval (NIDR) the 2 most important protocols for librarians are the international SR / Z39.50 standard and http. Describes the differing operations of FTR and NIDR as they affect the end-user

    Abstract
The report aims to analyze the applicability of the Resource Description and Access (RDA) within the Italian public libraries, and also in the archives and museums in order to contribute to the discussion at international level. The Central Institute for the Union Catalogue of Italian libraries (ICCU) manages the online catalogue of the Italian libraries and the network of bibliographic services. ICCU has the institutional task of coordinating the cataloging and the documentation activities for the Italian libraries. On March 31 st 2014, the Institute signed the Agreement with the American Library Association,Publishing ALA, for the Italian translation rights of RDA, now available and published inRDAToolkit. The Italian translation has been carried out and realized by the Technical Working Group, made up of the main national and academic libraries, cultural Institutions and bibliographic agencies. The Group started working from the need of studying the new code in its textual detail, to better understand the principles, purposes, and applicability and finally its sustainability within the national context in relation to the area of the bibliographic control. At international level, starting from the publication of the Italian version of RDA and through the research carried out by ICCU and by the national Working Groups, the purpose is a more direct comparison with the experiences of the other European countries, also within EURIG international context, for an exchange of experiences aimed at strengthening the informational content of the data cataloging, with respect to history, cultural traditions and national identities of the different countries.
