    Abstract
Presents a annotated list describing 13 commercially-produced software packages designed specifically to create, search, and print bibliographies. These annotations contain information pertaining to software programs designed specifically for organising bibliographic references and formatting bibliographies. The entry for each package includes the following information: software title, publisher, address, operating system(s), system requirements, bilbiography formats and special features. Provides a brief, alphabetical, quick access listing of the publishers

    Abstract
For literature searchers who create extensive bibliographies, special software is available. Among the most popular of these packages is ProCite from Research Information Systems. The system uses workforms with predefined fields for author, title etc. Through its BilioLink conversion program ProCite enables data to be downloaded from other files. Advantages of the package are its ease of use and links to WWW applications. However, index browsing is clumsy and there is little control over input errors

    Abstract
On Nov 26, 1997, Research Information Systems released its newest version of the ProCite bibliographic management software. The most notable change to the programme is the retooling for compatibility with Windows 95 and NT. In addition to the Windows 95 upgrade, ProCite added 2 new workforms. These forms allow users to capture information about Web pages and e-mail messages. This latest release builds on the Cite While You Write feature that allows users to link citations in a single manuscript to records in multiple databases. The program simplifies the generation of bibliographies and endnotes while allowing users to create bibliographic databases using 28 distinct workforms. Workforms cover a wide range of materials to patents. While there are a few idiosyncrasies users should be aware of, this product is a solid addition to the librarian's toolkit and should be considered by those libraries that have a need for a small but powerful programme to catalogue resources and create bibliographies

    Abstract
Reviews Library Master, Verison 3.0, a sophisticated but easy-to-use database management software which, in addition to creating basic bibliographies can also be used for organizing other types of materials such as research notes, museum and archive records, and mailing lists. Library Master's main focus is on creating bibliographies to support research papers or other types of scholarly activity and it contains over two dozen templates covering many types of record. Lists of records can be searched in an number of ways, including by author, title, subject, record number, or by Boolean operators. Library Master will accept up to 65.000 individual records for each database and supports a number of citation styles. It can also extract pre-coded citations from the text of a research paper and create the bibliography from those references and is able to import data from a variety of online services

    Abstract
Describes the components and uses of computerized library information systems. Examines the rules stipulated by S.R. Ranganathan in his Classified Catalogue Code (ed.5) (CCC5) for the construction of catalogues and preparation of bibliographies from the point of view of their relevance and suitability for creating bibliographic databases. Compares rules of CCC5 with those of AACR2 and suggests modification of existing rules as well as incorporation of new rules. Concludes that in developing online catalogues or online bibliographic databases, it is neither essential nor desirable to follow strictly the rules of specific traditional catalogue codes such as AACR2 or CCC5. Describes a design for a prototype integrated database for a library system with the aid of CDS/ISIS software

    Abstract
Presents strategies for publishing databases on the WWW. Outlines types of software available. Inmagic, Inc's DB/Text WebServer is a library oriented product that simplifies database creation and maintenance while reducing the number of components that need to be installed and maintained. Discusses its use as a platform for an union catalogue. Discusses its approach in the context of more generic schemes and the evolution of WWW database technology

    Abstract
GENESIS, from SCG, the supplier of the well established library management system BookshelF, is one of the first library management systems to run as a Windows product with a graphical user interface (GUI), and as such is one of the front runners of the next generation of library management systems. The article commences with a brief review of the characteristics of GUI-based systems and proceeds to examine the characteristics of GENESIS. GENSIS is based on a new database environment but retains the same package of modules a BookshelF: Catalogue, Circulation, Thesuaurs, System Defintions, Acquisistion, Serials, Management reporting and System Administration. The GUI interface is simple and easy to use. GENESIS has many of the the features that will characterise a new generation of library management systems

    Abstract
The library of the Prince Leopold Institute for Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium is a specialised research library with some 14.000 books and 550 current periodical subscirptions. Since 1990 the library has used Bib/SEARCH (version 2.9) library management program to provide online catalogue and database information facilities. The system is structured to enable easy transfer of data from other sources, and fields may be defined according to the library' needs. Despite minor problems such as the indexing routine, experience at the Institute has been positive. A new version of the system is currently under development

    Abstract
Design aspects of bibliographic databases are of utmost importance for effective resource sharing and for providing better information retrieval services in libraries. Standard formats such as the Common Communication Format (CCF) may be adapted for the design of databases. Experience shows that some modifications to the CCF format may be more useful for manipulation of data for various libray operations. Proposes the design of a bibliographic database based on CCF for use in Micr-CDS/ISIS. Almost all the mandatory CCF fields have been adopted and a few new fields added for achieving better results. Formats for display of records conform to AACR2. Provides ample catalogue entries and sample indexes to illustrate how the proposed design helps perform various information retrieval operations in libraries. Modifications in the display of records may be achieved with little effort

    Abstract
Standards are important for quality and interoperability in any system. Bibliographic record creation standards such as MARC 21 (Machine Readable Catalogue), CCF (Common Communication Format), UNIMARC (Universal MARC) and their local variations, are in practice all across the library community. ILMS (Integrated Library Management Systems) are using these standards for the design of databases and the creation of bibliographic records. Their use is important for uniformity of the system and bibliographic data, but there are problems when a library wants to switch over from one system to another using different standards. This paper discusses migration from one record standard to another, mapping of data and related issues. Data exported from CDS/ISIS CCF based records to KOHA MARC 21 based records are discussed as a case study. This methodology, with few modifications, can be applied for migration of data in other bibliographicformats too. Freeware tools can be utilized for migration.
