    Abstract
    Die Recherche nach Informationen ist eine der wichtigsten Tätigkeiten bei der Arbeit mit dem Internet. Bisher geschieht dies hauptsächlich textbasiert mit Hilfe von Suchmaschinen oder thematische Katalogen. ein neuer Zugang zu Informationen ist die raumbezogene Visualisierung, eine Technik, die bei der Darstellung und Interpretation von wissenschaftlichen Daten heutzutage zum Standard gehört. Die 3D-Visualisierung läßt sich aber auch einsetzen, um Textinformationen zu recherchieren und zu präsentieren. Mit ihr werden virtuelle Informationsräume erzeugt, die man wie mit einem Flugsimulator durchfliegen kann, um nach Informationen zu suchen. Wie solche 3D-Benutzerschnittstellen aussehen und wie man sie mit Hilfe von VRML erzeugen kann, ist das Thema dieses Buches

    Abstract
    Das Internet entwickelt sich zunehmend zu einem Medium, das prinzipiell jedem Informationen aus allen Bereichen zugänglich macht, egal, ob es sich um Themen wie Recycling, Fussballbundesliga, Geldanlage oder Urlaubsreisen handelt. Durch die Fülle der zu durchsuchenden Daten übersteigt der Zeitaufwand für die Prüfung und Auswertung der Daten jedoch häufig den eigentlichen Nutzen der gesuchten Information. Genau hier setzt dieses Buch an, indem es systematisch die wichtigsten Hilfsmittel für die Informationssuche im Internet auf ihre Leistungsfähigkeit und Eignung bei der Suche beschreibt und bewertet.     Abstract
    Im Vergleich mit der konventionellen Bibliothek stellt der Autor schrittweise die Recherchemöglichkeiten in der virtuellen Bibliothek Internet vor. Dabei werden detailliert Methoden und Strategien zur Informationsgewinnung zunächst beschrieben und anschließend mit Anwendungsaufgaben eingeübt. Die wichtigsten so vorgestellten Bereiche: Kataloge und Suchmaschinen, Diskussionforen, elektronische Nachschlagewerke. Auf die PC-gerechte Weiterverarbeitung der aus dem Internet gewonnenen Daten ('gepackte' Dateien, Texte, Filme, Bilder, Tondokumente) wird ebenfalls eingegangen. Ein Register verzeichnet thematisch geordnet Internet-Adressen für die tägliche Arbeit. Das Buch ist auch hervorragend für die bibliotheksinterne Internet-Schulung geeignet
