    Abstract
    Die Hirn- und Nervenforschung ist heute an einem Punkt, wo sie unser Verständnis von der menschlichen Natur grundsätzlich uns systematisch beeinflußt. Obwohl sich noch keineswegs von einer allumfassenden Theorie sprechen läßt, können wir doch unterdessen viele psychologische Faktoren mit Hilfe der Neurobiologie erklären und verstehen. Nach wie vor herrscht jedoch seitens der Philosophen große Skepsis gegenüber den Erkenntnissen der Naturwissenschaftler. Der Verfasser setzt sich mit der jahrtausendealten Frage nach dem zusammenhang von Geist und Körper auseinander. Er untersucht, inwiefern die psychischen Vorgänge im Gehirn für die Philosophie relevant sind und wie sie mit den philosophischen Konzepten von der Natur des Menschen, von Wahrnehmung, Freiheiten und moralischen Werten zusammenhängen. In gleicher Weise zeigt er die Wichtigkeit philosophischer Fragestellungen für die naturwissenschaftliche Forschung. Verständlich und ohne überflüssige Fachsprache führt der Autor so in die Ergebnisse der Hirnforschung ein und zeigt, was diese für unser Selbstverständnis bedeuten können
