In der Publikation werden Voraussetzungen eines autonomen informationellen Handelns gezeigt: Abstrahieren, Analogien bilden, Plausibilitäten beachten, Schlussfolgern und kreativ sein. Informationelle Kompetenz ist gelebte Informationelle Autonomie. Es lassen sich Konsequenzen für ein zukünftiges Menschenbild in informationstechnischen Umgebungen ziehen.

- Abstract
- Das Problem der Wahrnehmung und Darstellung von Wahrheit durch die Medien führt zu vier zentralen Fragen: Wie viel Wahrheit gibt es in der Welt, über die Journalisten berichten müssen? Wie ermittelt oder recherchiert man diese Wahrheit? Wie trennt man die Spreu vom Weizen? Und wie geht man als Journalist mit dem um, was man als Wahrheit erkannt hat oder erkannt zu haben glaubt? Hier gibt es ganz offensichtlich eine Parallele zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern. Journalisten und Wissenschaftler brauchen erstens Hypothesen, zweitens geeignete Hypothesentests, drittens ein gutes Abgrenzungs-Kriterium und viertens Verfahren, um die erkannten Sachverhalte auf angemessene Weise für eine Kommunikation mit anderen zu repräsentieren, das heißt sie darzustellen. Es gibt zwei große Unterschiede zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern: Journalisten sind in der Regel auf raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen aus, Wissenschaftler in der Regel auf raumzeitlich unbegrenzte Gesetze. Aber diese Unterschiede sind fließend, weil Wissenschaftler raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen brauchen, um ihre All-Aussagen zu überprüfen, und Journalisten sich immer häufiger auf das Feld der allgemeinen Gesetzes-Aussagen wagen oder doch zumindest Kausalinterpretationen für soziale Phänomene anbieten. Der zweite Unterschied besteht darin, dass die Wissenschaft weitgehend professionalisiert ist (zumindest gilt dies uneingeschränkt für die Naturwissenschaften und die Medizin), was ihr relativ klare Abgrenzungs- und Güte-Kriterien beschert hat. Diese fehlen weitgehend im Journalismus.

- Abstract
- Der Begriff der Information dient in den Neurowissenschaften zum einen zur Charakterisierung der Bedeutung von Reizen, die von Menschen oder Tieren mit Hilfe ihres Gehirns verarbeitet, in ihrer Verhaltensrelevanz eingestuft und in sinnvolles Verhalten umgesetzt werden. Zum anderen werden formale, mathematische Methoden der Informationstheorie und der statistischen Schätztheorie eingesetzt, um quantitative Aussagen über die Signalverarbeitung im Nervensystem zu treffen. Insbesondere wird die Frage untersucht, ob und mittels welcher neurobiologischer - insbesondere elektrophysiologischer-Größen Nervenzellen sensorische Reize oder motorische Handlungen codieren.

- Abstract
- Obwohl sie in erster Linie interne Dienstleistung ist, läßt sich die Dokumentation im Medienarchiv (vor allem ihre 'aktive' Variante) nicht vom System Journalismus abkoppeln. Mediendokumentare können sich heute kaum mehr mit findiger Lagerverwaltung bescheiden, da sowohl Dokumentation, als auch Publizistik mit der Vermittlung von Information zu tun haben und (in jeweils spezifischer Weise) am Gelingen oder Mißlingen der vielberufenen Informationsgesellschaft mitwirken. Voraussetzung für eine reflektierte Medienpraxis ist es, sich über den Sinn der Sache 'Information' klarer zu werden. Anhand einer kritischen Diskussion ausgewählter Theorien aus den Bereichen Informationswissenschaft und Philosophie wird versucht, das alltägliche Vorverständnis von 'Information' zu präzisieren. Am Leitfaden der Termini Vermittlung, Relevanz, Urteilskraft, Wissen und Meinen wird sodann ein kulturwissenschaftliches Begriffsfeld umrissen, das die Eingangsthesen erhärten und dazu beitragen soll, die Besonderheiten der Informationsvermittling im Medienbereich besser zu verstehen

- Abstract
- Die 'superindustrielle' Entwicklung der Gegenwart verlangt eine neue und neuartige Informationsordnung. Eine bloße Wissensordnung alten Zuschnitts reicht nicht mehr aus. Ein tieferes Verständnis von 'Information' und 'Informationstechnologie' erleichtert die Gewinnung einer neuen Informationsordnung: (1) 'Information' gehört nicht zu einer mysteriösen 'Welt drei' (K.R. Popper), sondern ist schlicht ein spezielles 'Modell - wovon -für wen - wozu' im Sinne einer modifizierten allgemeinen Systemtheorie; (2) dies trifft ebenfalls zu für 'Wissen' und 'Entscheidung', da sie Untermengen der Information sind; (3) Programme sind dynamische 'Modelle ...', die sogar das tun, was sie modellieren, nämlich menschliches Problemlöseverhalten; als solche sind sie neuartiges Wissen, das auch ausführt, was es zeigt; (4) Informationssysteme sind Makro-'Modelle - wovon - für wen - wozu'; (5) Computersysteme sind programmierbare Makromodelle (wovon - für wen - wozu), die auch ausführen, was sie modellieren; (6) die vergangene Informationsordnung beruhte auf dem Buch, die zukünftige wird auf Buch und Computer basieren. Buch und Computer verhalten sich zueinander wie statische lokale Wissensspeicher und dynamische verteilte und vernetzte Entscheider. Dem Umbruch sollte eine künftige Informationsordnung entsprechen; (7) es gibt zwei Arten von Kommunikation: die 'horizontale' unter Gleichen und die 'vertikale' unter Ungleichen. Computernetze umfassen Kommunikation beider Typen und deren programmierte Manipulation; (8) Computernetze umfassen Information aller Arten: Wissen, Entscheiden, Kommunikation u.a. Eine reine Wissensordnung reicht nicht mehr aus, sondern muß um eine Entscheidungs- und Kommunikationsordnung erweitert werden; (9) Wissen, Entscheiden, Kommunikation sind heute programmierbar, also für bestimmte Zwecke computermanipulierbar; zugleich sind sie vernetzt, also nicht mehr lokal oder zeitlich fixiert. Eine neue Informationsordnung wird sowohl das informationelle und kommunikative Selbstbestimmungsrecht der Bürger als auch diese neuen Umstände zu wahren haben
