Abstract

Die persönliche Publikationsliste im Internet ist eine wichtige wissenschaftliche Informationsquelle. Anhand einer Bestandsaufnahme wird der Frage nachgegangen, welche Unterstützungsleistungen Hochschulen und Bibliotheken ihren Forschenden anbieten können. Daraufhin werden strukturelle und funktionale Anforderungen entwickelt. Abschließend wird auf Instrumente für die Erreichung eines hochschulweiten Dienstes hingewiesen.

Abstract

Wie kann man den Inhalt eines Buches kurz wiedergeben? Davon und von anderen allgemeinen Methoden und Hilfsmitteln zur Verdichtung des Inhaltes von Informationsquellen (Literatur, Archivalien, audio-visuelles Material u.a.m.) wird hier berichtet. Dabei geht es um theoretische Grundlagen und praktische Anwendungen, Bewertungen sowie traditionelle und automatische Verfahren. Die Verdichtung einer Informationsquelle wird 'inhaltliche Erschließung' genannt. Durch sie wird eine Informationsquelle sozusagen 'veredelt'. Praktisch heißt das, inhaltliche Erschließung macht Informationen mittels Inhaltsverdichtung und Ordnung erst zugänglich bzw. erhöht bei einer Informationssuche (Recherche) die Zugriffsgeschwindigkeit auf Informationen um ein Vielfaches gegenüber nichterschlossenen Informationsquellen. In vereinfachender Darstellung werden hier Berufsanfängern und weiteren Interessierten wesentliche Erkenntnisse auf diesem Gebiet anschaulich vermittelt. Diese neuartige, stringente Darstellung der Thematik dürfte aber auch bei 'alten Hasen' zu neuen Einsichten führen, besonders auf terminologischem Gebiet

Abstract

In unserer Informations- und Wissensgesellschaft ist Information ein kostbares Gut. Immer mehr scheinen wir aber in einer wahren Informationsflut unterzugehen. Die Nutzung des Internets als einer modernen Informationsquelle erfordert daher die intensive Auseinandersetzung mit der Qualität der Information. Abstract

Seit Jahren hat das Internet in der Wissenschaftswelt als Netzwerk für den Daten- und Informationsaustausch große Bedeutung. Auch Firmen erkennen inzwischen den Nutzen eines Anschlusses ans Internet. Parallel zum Wachstum des Internet entstand ein sehr großes Informationsangebot, wodurch dem Benutzer die Auswahl der für ihn relevanten Information erschwert wurde. Das Buch bietet eine praxisorientierte Einführung ins Internet und seine wichtigsten nationalen und internationalen Dienste. Beispielsitzungen erläutern deren wesentliche Aspekte. Abstract

Im Internet steht inzwischen eine enorme und ständig wachsende Menge von Dokumenten zur Verfügung. Es wird daher auch für wissenschaftliche Informationssuchende neben traditionellen Printveröffentlichungen zu einer wichtigen Informationsquelle. Im Gegensatz zur relativ geordneten Welt der gedruckten Publikationen ist es jedoch schwierig, gezielt Informationen im Internet zu finden. Ursachen dafür sind neben sehr unterschiedlicher Qualität und Zielsetzung auch Charakteristika von Internetdokumenten, wie z.B. die Darstellung als offener, verteilter Hypertext oder ihre leichte Veränderbarkeit. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird untersucht, inwieweit die gegenwärtigen Suchdienste für das WWW Anforderungen an die wissenschaftliche Informationssuche entsprechen. Dazu wird ein Überblick über die Arbeitsweisen sowie generelle Stärken und Schwächen verschiedener Typen von Suchdiensten (roboterbasierte, manuell erstellt sowie simultane) gegeben
